I’m new to the hobby of modelling, and I’m thinking of buying an airbrush with which to paint my models. Previously, I have just been using paint from a spray can. I build 1/72 scale aircraft, and was wondering what kind of airbrush and compressor should I buy? Thanks!
P.S. I saw an airbrush/compressor set at Wal-mart called the Mighty Mini by Testors. Does anyone have any opinions on that?

I would not recomend going the Wal-Mart route. (I believe that air-brush is external mix/single action.) It will be cheaper short term, but if you stick with it, you will quickly find yourself looking to upgrade
welcome to the board pzl. i am a relative newbie to airbrushing as well. i contemplated getting the mighty mini but after doing a search i found that i would reach it’s limits rather quickly. instead i bought a badger 175 and a 3 gallon aircompressor from sears. the only problem i have is that my wife loves airbrushing now and she doesn’t like moving the heavy compressor around . so i’m going to get her a silentaire from hobby lobby with the 40% off coupon…which should come out to $95.
Check your local auto part discounter. I just bought a 50’ airhose for $16. I don’t lugging the compressor around either.
Exactly. You can go nuts and buy a manifold and run multiple hoses all around the house!

wow that’s good to know Vinny… sometimes out of laziness I just reply to the last person who replied to a post instead of the person who started it… don’t want to keep them from deleting it so I might start going to the top so to speak…
Well, I’ve tested the delete function in the test forum and I can’t delete my own post whether it’s been replied to or not!
Thanks for all of your input. I think I know what kind of airbrush I would like to get now that I’ve read that link. Also, my dad has a 25 gallon air compressor that he uses for his tools. From what you guys have said, I infer that I could just buy an air hose, and then attach one end to my dads air compressor and the other end to my airbrush? Thanks.
Providing you have an adapter, yes. I would suggest buying a regulator and moisture trap and install that at the working end of the airhose to control air flow and eliminate moisture.
depending on the airbrush hose, as long as the connector at the outlet of the compressor is 1/4" NPT then most hoses will fit right on that… (Badger and Iwata both will) … if not a hardware store should have the proper adaptor. I second the moisture trap and possibly a hobby style regulator. If your dad nixes using another regulator on his compressor it will still work, you’ll just have less control over pressure which won’t necessarily hinder your airbrushing as long as you find the right pressure for you!
