New Toys!

Ok, I’ve ordered the Eduard etched set for my Tamiya F4U-1D and as I couldn’t get that delivered without getting a kit I bought the Hasegawa Bf 109G-10, and since I was buying that I thought I might as well buy the Eduard set to go with that too! All 1/48 incidentally.

Anyone used either of these together? I’ve never used PEs before. Anything I should know beforehand?

Darren

PE takes some practice to work with. Start with the larger pieces and whatever you do, don’t rush! It’s fragile and easily damaged. It can be attached with CA glue, white glue or even Future. It needs to be washed before you use it; I soak mine in white vinegar for several hours, then rinse carefully. It can be frustrating to work with at times, but you can get some really fantastic results with it. Good luck; I’m sure there’ll be additional feedback from other forum members.

If you bought the new color (prepainted sets) skip the vinegar wash [:)]. I use CA to attach some of the PE, but if it’s something that needs critical alignment I use 5 min. epoxy.

Hey rjkplasticmod I will be ordering the color edaurd set for my stang… since no vinegar soak for colored what do i do?

Thanks for the advice, I’ll be careful with them! I didn’t get the colour ones, no. So, I’ll get the white vinegar out [;)]

Will my side cutters cut them ok? Or my x-acto knife?

Darren

Darren, I use an Xacto as the tabs attaching the parts to the rest of the fret are very thin.

Like Paul said PE can be a pain to work with, just take your time and test fit everything.

Also try and work over a tray so that any pieces that get ‘tweezerpulted’ are less likely to get lost. ( NOTE:t has taken me a long time to learn this[banghead]

Best of luck with the builds.
