I’ve only recently got into modeling, having only done a few when i was a kid. Now im really enjoying it!, I have a huge interest for History and WWll. Me and my partner have just had a baby, so being at home a lot more I cant keep my hands still!
I started out doing a couple cars, now im focusing more on WWll aircraft. I joined this site as a researching tool for techniques, tools and kit trouble shooting. Originally finding this site having trouble piecing together the fuselage of my Acadamy 1/72 B-17G Special nose art. Having only just started i have have the basic tools, it will take me a while to afford an airbrush! Especially at New Zealand prices!!
Next inline is an Airfix Short Sunderland lll, as a bit of New Zealand history.
After that im thinking about doing some fighters, im interested in the Corsairs, Hellcats and Texans.
My most previous kits are: AMT 1/24 30’ Ford Tourer, Revell 1/24 66’ Chevy El Camino, Airfix 1/72 Sopwith Pup, Revell 1/72 Boeing PT-13D Kaydet.
Doing the Big bombers after the small bi-planes is pretty daring but im game enough!

Hi Jerry, my Uncle John spent some time in Auckland, New Zealand during WWII in the US Army. He showed me a photograph of him standing on a rock in the Auckland harbor that was a local landmark.
I’m age 60 and live about 3 miles from the Brazos River about 65miles southwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth airport. Like you I’m in the process of picking up the pieces my modeling hobby again. Its been 8-10 years and things have changed so much. So many new products and information sharing on the internet makes me feel like a beginner. So I am doing research into the changing techniques and new tools available to buy, provided my monthy fun money budget allows me to purchase anything.

Back in 89’ I had a couple condo mates from NZ while working on a ski hill. Cool people yet I believe they had a bit of ‘culture shock’ living in basically a party condo that mostly resembled a stereotypical frat house.

Not alot happened in NZ during WWll, We did get a few good planes out of it tho! There was a Battle of Britain anniversary airshow in Auckland over the weekend, Commemorating Keith Park, which i missed!
I actually have had a disaster happen today, Ill post some pics and ask for advice in the Aircraft section of the forum. My partner open the curtains over my modelling desk and the bloody magnifying glass burn my B-17!!! Unbeilevable bad luck!! haha!
Oh and no luckily i wasnt affected by the Quake, But i feel sorry for everyone down there. Its been one of the worst winters in years!
Welcome Jerry, it’s a great hobby good to people returning to it in this age of electronic toys, still nothing like holding it in your hands and being proud of the finished product.
