My name is Mike and I’m getting back into modeling after a 15+ year hiatus.
I’m in the process of rebuilding my paint collection, but I need help with all these new techniques of weathering, cast molding, filters, etc, etc…my head already hurts.
A lot has changed from when I last stopped building, so I hope I can learn some of these new ideas.
Welcome Mike! What you are experiencing is normal. The majority of us got back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Yeah, lots of changes, but the fun of the hobby and joy you get is still there. So ask any questions you have. Tons of folks here with a wealth of knowledge more than willing to pass on tips and tricks. Only thing is to remember to post pics of your builds! Welcome!
I certainly understand the bewilderment at the many avenues that can be pursued. I find that by choosing a specific goal for a project, you can focus on that aspect.
Maybe for this build it is all about seams. The next is a new weathering technique like dot filtering or pastel powders. Another tries resin or PE.
Pretty soon you have mastered a bunch. And don’t forget that you can always just build one ‘Out Of the Box -OOB’ now and again just to enjoy the process and not get bogged down.
Hey, Mike! Glad you could join us. Yeah, there’s a lotta new tricks knockin around nowadays. But, there’s something to be said about all the old methods too. And, rest assured, you’ll be teachin some folks in here a thing or two as well. We all learn something “new” every day. Come on in. Share some of your stuff (pics). And have fun!!
