New to the Forum

Hello Everyone

I have just joined the forum. I am a retired Military pilot for many years. I grew up during WWII, my Dad was a Navy pilot. I took up modeling around 20 years ago and have collected a built quite a number of models. I almost entirely model 1/48 and 1/32 scale Allied WWII aircraft. I have been lucky over the years to have been able to fly a number of them when I was in CAF.

Anyway, I am glad to be among such a fine group of modelers. With the advent of Online flight simulations, i.e. Warbirds, Aces High, a lot of my modeling time has gone into flying. However, interestingly enough Aces High has a great group of chaps that are designing “skins” for the WWII aircraft that are as intricate as anything we do with models. Very interesting. I am too old to try and do what they do.

I have one main problem that I could use some help with. I have had shelves built in my garage to hold some 100 models that I have built over the years. Others were built and put back in the boxes for final assembly.

Problem is all the models have a layer of dust on them. How do you get that off without knocking off the anntenna’s, pitot tubes, etc?? Anyone had that problem? The dust won’t blow off with the airbrush. Can take tissue, dampen it and rub off the dust. This just won’t work.

Any other ideas.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Welcome to the land of paint & glue fumes Al…

welcome to the forums…when i normally dust off my ships, i use a brush and dab it in a little bit of water…the air spray cans work great, but sometimes will blow very small pieces clean off the model…

Hello Al, Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the FSM Forums [#welcome], I don’t think any of my models ever got as dusty as you describe, but I use a large soft brush ( an old fashioned shaving brush is great ) & carefully & gently dust them. Works quite well & minimizes damage.
