New to modeling need help

Hello,

I haven’t put a model together in 40 years so I bought a Renwal Visible Airplane Engine. All is well except I’m missing 1 part to a head. Does anyone know if any parts still exist for these things. Even an old beater model would work. Thanks for your time.

Hi Yon! Welcome to the Forums. Glad to have you with us.

There should be info on the instruction sheet to contact the manufacturer. Give them a call or an e-mail telling them the number of the part that you need. Most manufacturers will send you a replacement part at no cost to you. If you don’t have any luck there, try e-bay. You might be able to pick up a kit cheap for parts.

Hope that this helps.

Welcome aboard. Afraid i can’t help, but i am sjure someone will be able to.

Question?

Is it a Piston or Jet? because it or parts may be available through Micro-Mark. They are on page 5 of the Christmas Catalogue. Across the Bottom of the page. If it is Renwal’s Piston engine all I can recommend is to replace the missing part with another from the pieces .

If it’s the jet you might get by with the one I have suggested. Now, That said I do know the Renwal may be the older jet type .If that is the case you may have to make the part based on the drawings in the instructions.

There is another source though . The Smithsonian has a kit out, Hard to find, of a jet. This may be the one you need. I hope this helps and Welcome here. This is what we do here, help each other build better models! T.B.

Hey Jim !

The poor guy has the RENWAL model. Company existence Nil, Nada. Over twenty years now. T.B. P.S. I seem to remember seeing their stuff, at least some of it under Both Lindberg and Life-Like as well as Moebious.

I think your best bet will be eBay. I have seen folks part out stuff like this.

Welcome to the Forums!

Thanks everyone for the input. I think eBay is the way to go on this one. I’m sure a junker will show up in time. All I need to do is bid crazy to get it.

I picked up an old Boot Hill express years ago, and discovered there were parts missing (the urns that crown the top of the body). I ended up introducing myself to resin casting. It’s not difficult, just a bit time-consuming. Sounds like you may have other heads you can use as a pattern.

I’d say go for it. You’ll probably get your part faster, and quite possibly cheaper. Additionally, you’ll learn a new modeling skill.

And yes, you can get clear resin.

Sorry about the mis-information. I don’t follow the manufacturers the way a lot of you do. I didn’t know that they were out of business.
