New to Belgium...

Hey all,

I just moved to Belgium and was wondering if anyone can steer me in the direction of good hobby shops. I work in Mons and and live in La Louviere. I buy most my models off evilbay so Im good there. what I need is a place to buy modeling supplies, paints etcetra…

Thanks.

There used to be a pretty good local model shop in Mons… I would not know where exactly it was, though! There’s a couple of good ones in Liège (Reducta and Hobby 2000), but that’s a bit far out… I’ll do some research for you.

If you drop me a line, I’ll give you the number of a friend of mine who can tell you all about the good places to buy from in the country. Belgium also has a large number of model shows each year and most feature swap-meets.

the only one I know of is a big one in Antwerp. Failing that, these people www.plasticmodelbouw.nl are great.

Almost forgot… Maastricht isn’t too far away from Liegé, and I know there’s a model shop there too… Or at least there was one, don’t know about nowadays… I bought my Verlinden on plastic wings book there…

hi awood23 [:D] in Brussels there’s a great shop (small but stacked to the sealing) in the reu de lemonier (anneesens)end it’s called POINT50 and in Gent is one i go regulary in the Kortrijksepoortstraat 250,and it’s called MODELCENTER VERBORGH and they have lots of different brands(even russian) hope i could help

I used to live in Ath and there were 2 shops there and I also recall one in Mons. But that was quite a while ago. If you’re military I remember SHAPE having one.

Thanks all who’ve responded,

One of the Geandarmes (sp?) I work with lives in Brussels and knows the Point 50 model shop so hopefully Ill make it out there soon.
Danny: Im still trying to learn my way around but isnt Ath in between SHAPE and Cheivers? if so can you be more specific where these shops are. Also Ive looked around SHAPE and cant find any model shops… any where near the GB Store?
DJ: as soon as I figure out the phone thingy here… much different than the States Ill send you an email so I can give you a ring. Id love to know more about these model shows. Ive been wanting to go to one but have never made it. What little I can find doing internet searches pulls up sites in french and some lauguage I dont really recognize but much like this in maffen’s post “Kortrijksepoortstraat” BTW are you located in England or Belgium? I still go to Britan every chance I get to visit my grandfather. Best thing about this assignemnt is it brought me back closer to him.
Once again thanks for all the help guys

I’m from Belgium (from around Liège) but I live in Kent, right between London and the Channel port of Dover. I still go to Belgium to see the family and friends and attend the odd show. Do you speak French? The other language is Flemish, related to Dutch. If you work in Brussels, you’ll be exposed to both languages at all times. Belgium also has a 3rd official language, German, by the way…! Complicated little country…!

Belgium must have the most densely packed model show season of all countries in the world! If you can visit the IPMS Belgium website, you’ll find the details of quite a few shows already, but there are several non-IPMS clubs around too, organising their own shows. Also, the Netherlands and France are never far away, with yet more shows on offer! If you are into AFVs, you need to come to Folkestone, UK, in February for a show called Trucks’n’Tracks. A must! Or even the EuroMilitaire, in the same town, in September.

my e-mail is djmodels1999@aol.com
then we can exchange phone numbersif you want.

Is that just in case? [;)]
