Hi,
I just started modelling in general but have only built a couple of armour models and two 1/72 air models so far. My main question is this - I find weathering and applying washes to create depth much more easy for armour than planes - why is this? I have heard suggested that I should paint an undercoat of aluminium, paint on top with the main colour and then scratch away the top coat to reveal the bare metal colour underneath. But how do I get things like panel lines to look good as when I tried to apply a wash to my spitfire model I found that the recesses were not deep enough to make the wash work very well, and for the same reason when I tried drybrushing the aircraft surface it wasn’t as effective as when I drybrush armour. Anyone have any advice for me? Cheers [:)]
I think the main reason is that armor has a lot more crevices & such more easily create depth. Panels lines are shallow, especially at 1/72nd. In terms of wash, have your tried diluting the wash enough so that it flows in the lines? Perhaps its just the kit not having deep enough lines for you to do a proper wash.
For me, the armor has more surfaces that come in contact with mud so there could be more drybrushing and washes, but the a/c, you have to be careful becauseit doesn’t do the work an armor does.
