New Star Wars models

Hey again , I just bought the new re release of the old snap tight ertl X-wing fighter and the MF building the X-wing now and will post pictures as I can , I do have to say while the quality of the kit is rather poor / avarage you can’t beat the cost $15.00 brand new , compared to Fine Molds , however you can’t beat Fine Molds either .
I’m wondering has anyone else bought any of these kits ? Drop a reply I’d love to hear about it .

I have quite a few of the AMT Star Wars kits and have always enjoyed building them. With some work they can turn out great. Just need lots O putty on hand[yuck]. One thing though… Did you mean $15. for both or for the x-wing??? Both I hope

Matt

I saw these kits the other day, I’m thinking of picking up the At-At at some point…can’t beat the price.

Man all this time I thought they reboxed the bigger X-wing (almost 1/48). I have the small one too. I ground out its entire interior and scratchbuilt a new one. Then I made a 1/72 Cobra 'copter pilot fit in it. The next step was: put it all back in the box because I already built the 1/40-something one!

Love to get the Snowspeeder again, I have fond memories of building that kit back in the early 80’s.

cheers

Mike

Since they are all made in China where the workers are almost slaves then no wonder they are cheap. :>

Glad to see them comming out again because it’s been kind of hard finding older ones like snowspeeder and at-at

I bought both too… cut out the innards of the x-wing , scratchbuilt new landing gear, scratchbuilt the cockpit, and added canards to the nose:
(yeah, I know…it doesn’t hold up to the film version…I built the one described in the original script, wheels, etc…so I call this one a T-65 G )

I checked on the “new” AMT kits today. Looks like the Snowspeeder will be here before the end of the month, I’ll be picking up one of those and also the Star Destroyer when it’s released later in the year. The At-At looks like it is a Structors (spl?) kit, which I believe is the wind up mechanism to make it walk, wish they had re-released the large static At-at. Anyhow should be good fun, want to do a Snowspeeder rigged for dessert use this time, which I guess would make it more of a Sandspeeder?

Man this is sounding like it could lead to a group build ??? any takers ?

Definitely!

Whatever you do… if you finish them before end of May, enter them in the Starshipmodeler.com Star Wars Contest:

OOB Star Wars group build? Good idea for us non-scratch builders, but I would not be able to participate as I’m booked for the year for group builds, but I will watch closely if one gets started. Have fun!

I’d be in for a OOB Star Wars GB, I have both the larger and snap style X-Wing, the MF (That won’t be OOB however), and a Speeder Bike (contemplating building it OOB or doing some simple accurizing).

I would be down for a group build as well:).

Hi guys,
I hate to sound like an idiot but… what is a group build and how does it work?

Idiot would be the one who didn’t ask.
Group Build or GB is when folks agree to build a model in a defined period. For example:
German tanks GB 15/may/2005 - 15/december/2005 would be a group build for people interested in building german tanks models between those dates.
There can be specific rules like OOB (out of the box) if no aftermarkets pieces are to be used or maybe the model kits that can be used.

Hello Vince and welcome to the forums.

Group builds are pretty simple things. We, as a group, pick a certain kit or subject and build it during a given time frame. Along the way we post our progress, challenges and solutions and just generally harass one another on the forums. Usually there is a Group Build badge to display as a reward for participating.

Check out the “Group Builds” forum here at FSM and you’ll catch on pretty quick.
