Wojszwillo, Thanks for posting the link to the pictures. Looking at those I struggle to think what, if anything the committed historic sailing ship modeller would be able to make of this. Late 17th century corvette? Who knows, maybe some brave modeller can make something of it?!

That would be kind of cool. I’m thinking about picking up 2 of the pearl kits(if they ever are released) I would build 1 as the Black Pearl, and the other as the Wicked Wench.
For those of you who don’t know. The Wicked Wench was the name of the Black Pearl before Cutler Becket burned the ship and sank it and branded Sparrow as a pirate. which is why Jack Sparrow had Davy Jones raise the ship and thus renamed her the Black Pearl and his curse. In case you can’t tell, I like the Pirates movies.
Is this post about a new Revell Vasa kit or the fictitious pirate ship the Black Pearl? Let’s get back on track before we also start on about the Pirate ship from Peter Pan or some other bit of nautical nonsense!
Further to earlier threads that suggest that the new Revell Vasa kit may be a retread of the Airfix one seems remote, as I am not aware of any Airfix kit ever being released under the Revell banner. This has got to be a brand new kit, and hopefully better than the Airfix one. But to be fair the Airfix kit is pretty good considering its age. Just a few innaccuracies when compared to the Eva Marie Stolt Drawings from the Vasa museum. Revell have a much better research advantage now that the ship is displayed dry whereaqs the Airfix kit was researched way back in the 70’s when the ship was only partially rebuilt and being constantly sprayed with water. So hopefully it should be very accurate. If the quality of Revell Germany’s car and aircraft kits is anything to go by this should be a very good kit.
HMS Warrior would make a superb subject for a new kit as a follow on.
This is supposed to be a completely new kit, including full gun decks. I cannot wait for its release!

The New Revell Wasa should be released in October. I can’t wait to see it and the other nautical nonsense that is due to be released this year.

I have asked my local Hobby Shop to order it when it’s released. I am hoping Revell AG does a great job, but to have a new sailing ship model after so many years… I’d build it anyway.
According to the owner of my LHS, it is supposed to be released Dec 31.

Getting back to the new Revell Vasa kit There are some pictures of their test shots on Revell’s website. Generally it looks very good…apart from the moulded plastic ratlines to make it easier for less skilled modellers. Serious modellers however will discard these and make their own. From what I have seen of these test shot photos the potential for a seriously good model is there, and I am looking forward to seeing the refined kit when it goes on general sale.
Enemeink took me to task a few posts ago about my footnote to see HMS Warrior kitted in response to my comment about the Black Pearl and Peter Pan Pirate ships being ‘Nautical Nonsense’ . At least the Warrior is a real ship!! Whether it would be commercially viable as a plastic kit is something else. Having said that, I enjoyed all the Pirates of the Carribean movies just like most, so realistically I have to agree that there is much more chance of seeing the fictitious Black Pearl kitted as it is more viable as a plastic kit. One piece of ‘Nautical Nonsense’ that I would have dearly liked to have seen kitted in plastic is the Disney version of the Nautilus. Airfix almost did it about 20 odd years ago but scrapped the project after it had got to test shot stage. There are kits about for this but generally very large and very expensive.
Personally, I do think of the Black Pearl and the Peter Pan ship as nautical nonsense. However, any new plastic sailing ship kit is cause for celebration among those of us who build them because it shows that the industry has a little life. If those kits can attract kids to build them, they might grow into serious sailing ship modellers and more kits might be manufactured.
I still believe that there is a market for plastic sailing ship kits. Again, just witness that for the HECEPOB kits that are far more expensive and (sometimes) “nautical nonsense.” If only the manufacturers would do some serious market research!

Not review, but some pictures, that shows, that parts molded in plastic are wery crisp (as for Revell) and are wery detailed:
I’ve been wanting to pick this kit up to do a comparison build. i built the Airfix kit a couple of years ago and would like to see how this one builds. some things would have to go on the Revell like kit, like the rigging molded into the bow spirit has to go.
