I just noticed this on Revell’s website; Anyone have any further information? Could this be an all-new plastic sailing ship kit?

That would be terrific! I just hope that it isn’t just a repackaging of the Airfix kit, as was the Heller release.

well there seems to be some small differences between the two. If it is in fact a new model, i’ll but it and you’ll see a build log started here. some of the differences i noticed are:
Airfix Revell
Scale: 1/144 1/150
Size: 486mm 460mm
parts: 229 250
these numbers are close, so they might be the same kit. i guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Given that Revell is sometimes scale-challenged, there is some cause for questioning. But, also given that Revell seems to be on a quest to provide kits of museum sailing ships (Batavia, Dom Fernando, etc.) perhaps it is a newer kit. It would be good to see that dummy gunports go away!

On the Modellmarine.de website Wolfgang Kring gave a summary of the show with lots of pictures. My auto translate says this about Revell Germany and the Wasa:
Revell announced in October 2011 the cruise ship Aida in 1:400 and the Swedish sailing ship Vasa in at 1:150. The latter is not a repeat of the old Airfix model (1:144), but to our own new forms.
That being said, I look forward to the release! God bless RoG for their efforts in releasing new sailing ship kits!

My impression of Revell of Germany - and it is only that, an impression - is that it is making a genuine effort to bring newly-tooled, quality kits onto the marketplace.
I have a lot of respect for Revell-Gr. kits. I built their Emden and have received several gold medals for it. I have the Smit Houston and have not started it yet, but it looks very nice. So I am eagerly awaiting the Wasa.
I was very impressed with heir Batavia, the Alexander van Humbolt, and their Viking ship. I liked ther Dom Fernando although it is a repackaging of the Zvesda kit. Also, I was impressed that they released the old Aurora Bon Homme Richard, not because it is a good kit but that it shows a growing trend towards putting sailing ship kits on the market.

Here’s a link to the only picture from modellmarine.com of the Revell Wasa. It must be the work in progress artwork, but who knows. I must say I’m pretty excited about the new Wasa kit. I’m going to order mine as soon as they become available. Hopefully my Prince De Neufchatel will be complete by then.

Anyone else notice the Zvezda Black Pearl?
I noticed it, but for some reason my mind thought it was that chinese company that sells the POB pearl kits. it didn’t even register that it was a plastic kit. i’m starting to feel quite excited for the new kits this year.
I wonder if they plan to also make the Queen Ann’s Revenge from the new movie since it’s the reworked Black Pearl.

Now that it has been officially announced, I can spill the beans. the Vasa Museum is working with Revell Deutschland to develop an entirely new injection-moulded kit of Vasa in 1:150 scale to be released in the fourth quarter of 2011. This kit will have about 200 parts and will feature extensive internal detail in the gundecks (separate guns and carriages). The tooling is based on our most recent plans and documentation, so should be quite accurate (the Airfix kit is still the most accurate kit out there at the moment, but this will be better).
Revell has an excellent reputation for the quality of research and tooling, and their kits are not difficult to build. Because they are a volume producer, price will be reasonable as well. This is the first sailing ship kit they have done in more than 20 years.

I’m drooling a little bit over this kit. Serioulsy. Now does any body have any inside info on the Zvezda Black Pearl?

I don’t know Zvezda’s Black Pearl. Maybe You talking about Zvezda’s “new” Ghost ship “Flying Duchman” 1/100? It’s the same model as Zvezda’s Nao “San Gabriel” (was released by Zvezda as Conquistador Ship too) and this model is the same model as Revell’s Nao “San Gabriel” and all of them are in fact first issued by Occidental as San Gabriel.
