New Releases seen at Hobby Expo

Guys, I was lucky to be in Chicago for work at the same time as Hobby Expo, the convention for the hobby industry.

My first check was to look for new releases. Most of the major manufacturers did not have any new planned armor releases that were shown at the show except Trumpeter and Hobby Boss.

Hobby Boss - showed pictures only of the planned AALVTP7 variants and V150 variants releases. Most of thses have been seen on other fourms. No release dates given and the indication was spring to spring+ 2009. But the good news is they are coming. It is just a matter of waiting.

Trumpeter - Now they had test shots at the show

VC-105 Centauro - Nov 08 - MSRP $54.95

Looked good with detail. Kit will include PH.

M1134 AT Stryker - No date shown - Based on what was shown, late spring to summer

LAV-M - No date shown - Based on what was shown, late spring to summer

Both will include PH and looke good with plenty of detail

M1078 LMTV - No date shown - Based on what was shown, late spring to summer

Looked good with full interior

M198 - No date shown - Based on what was shown, late spring to summer

Impressive for this Redleg!! Full of detail. Kit includes PH

OK…for you Germaholics

German VK 300 Panzer IV - Jan 09 - MSRP $54.99

In general the Trumpeter upcoming releases were all impressive

For those who want to do landing craft, Lindberg just release LCP in1/32. Looked good but my feeling was why 1/32 and not 1/35

In general, being at this show you see how our hobby is a small part of the hobby industry. The BULK of the companies and displays were either model railroading or rc models.

Vallejo paint showed to be impressive including water based mediums for water and stone. An excellent line for dioramas

Tamiya & Dragon were absent…Hummm. Major manufacurer not represented??

Stopped by the FSM booth but none of our guys were there. Oh well.

Still on the road on buisness but wanted to get this to you. It was fun, lots to look at.

I will try to answer any questions.

Rounds Complete!!

Thanks for sharing the news and photos Mike.

I assume everything in the pics are 1/35 scale ?

That M198 looks really good. I’ll definitely have to get one. Thanks Mike.

Carves - Yep…all 1/35. Did not see any other scale (1/48 or 1/72) armor with any new release.

Gino - YES YOU DO!!

I have a resin version on the shelf. I will be dumping shortly. Even if I take a loss…this kit looked much better on details

Rounds Complete!!

Mine was about 95% complete before I left. I should have left it on the shelf too. This one looks much better. I figured if I built it, it would come out in plastic…so you can all thank me.

Looks like you Arty guys are gonna be in hog-heaven w/ that 198…

Neat stuff, Mike. How was the rest of the show? Score any good deals?

Must…have… M…198…

Too bad Tamiya and Dragon weren’t there, but they both have many releases in the works. Tamiya looks like they are releasing newly-tooled or updated Italian M13/40 and Semovente. Dragon has a slew of new ones coming out, with the highly anticipated Tiger I w/zim and Panther G w/zim among others. Check out Perth’s site.

Looks like Trump’s coming through once again. They are quickly becoming one of my favorites. And thanks to you Redleg for sharing. By the way, you mention that several kits include ‘PH’. What is that? Or did you mean PE?

Cwalker - Duh…I guess my brain was stuck…PE or Photo Etch…Yep…Old age catching up.

Squeakie - I don’t think these are re-makes. Detail looked great

Manny - Every once and a while we too have to find an acorn!!!

Dupes - This was a manufacturers show. There were a few vendors of tools and small items. But for the most part it was the maufacturers. No real selling…just looking.

Tigerman - I was bummed that Tamiya and Dragon did not show. At least then I may have had more info for my Germaholic friends…I tried!!

Hans - Looks excellent…must wait until spring

Maybe all the redlegs make a group order for a battallion!!!

Rounds Complete!!

You probably will have it finished before the new kit even SEES the LHS shelves…

Quote: “For those who want to do landing craft, Lindberg just release LCP in1/32. Looked good but my feeling was why 1/32 and not 1/35”

Erm… Is this a re-pop of the (older than I am) LCVP? would explain the scale, as I had the Lindy & Italeri kits, which were a ‘very similar size’…

Other than that, I’m looking forward to the Centauro, AAV’s, M198…

Any more pics, btw?
