The airplane is a DC-10 jumbo jet with United’s original paint job from about 1960. It was part of a donation of a collection of old kits that a couple gave to the local IPMS chapter, with the instructions that they should be given to anyone who would enjoy building them. They belonged to a long deceased family member. I found this kit still sealed in the original cellophane, and it was made in about 1972! Amazingly, the decals were still good and useable, so I built it. I searched the usual sources and found nobody makes a DC-10 model any more. The kit was made in USA by a Aurora.

The scale is 1/144, Don.

We were talking awhile back about how to make window panes for airliners. In this case, clear areas in the blue stripe of the decals nicely provide flush window panes. I sprayed several coats of clear gloss to strengthen and preserve them.

I was looking at a what I remember as being a 1/100 Nitto DC-10 at the LHS. I guess it is a vintage kit. Be nice to see a reissue of these and an L-1011 in 1/144th.
