Hello, I am new to the forums and a newbie to diorama building. I’m mostly into Car garage dioramas but have a few Questions that I hope someone don’t mind answering for me. All replies are appreciated and thank you in advance!
The cars I use are mostly 1/24 and 1/25 scale:
What scale does the garage need to be?
What scale should all the little pieces be? Tools, tool boxes, etc… Just want everything to look atleast close to being right…
Where is the best place to buy diorama pieces and parts?
1/24 is the same as 1/2" = 1’-0" scale. so, to scale, an 8 x 8 garage door is 4" x 4". A 10’ tall door is 5" tall. A service station garage ceiling is about 12’ tall, so that’s 12/2 or 6". We can derive some numbers, too. 1/4" = 6"; 1/8" = 3" 1/16" = 1.5" and 1/32" = 3/4". To use round numbers, .040" ≈ 1" You could use 3/8" stock to represent 8" CMU walls. You could be forgiven for modeling 8x16x8 concrete block as 9x18x9, or 3/8" x 3/4" x 3/8"–the difference will be a portion of a 32nd of an inch. Unless you want to cut .318 x …636 .318" blocks and fit them up with 1/64" (3/8" at scale ) mortar joints.
These are both sites that cater specifically to modeling. They both offer specialized tools, models, and modeling accesories, and other modeling assortments.
The only thing I would suggest is which ever scale you can find the most after market products in is the scale of auto you should use. I know that may limit your choices, but it may be worth considering.
