Has anyone tried the new Model Master Naval Paints? If so, how are they?

Haven’t run into these yet; I’ll certainly try a bottle or two when I do.

I did, however, recently discover (with FSM’s help) the excellent Lifecolor line. I ordered the two U.S.N. sets. I can’t comment on the accuracy of the colors (they look fine to me, but I’m no expert), but I really like the way they handle. I haven’t tried airbrushing them yet (I’m just a brush-painting kind of guy), but when they come out of the nice, wide-mouthed plastic jars they’re just about the right consistency for brushing. They cover well, go on with minimal or no brush marks, and dry in a hurry (maybe a little too quick). I fully intend to buy some more. There are some accuracy issues with some of the LifeColor paints, but not all. Otherwise they’ve been well received. The ModelMaster paints should be fairly spot on; they were in their previous acryl line.

Thanks! I have also used the Lifecolor paints. My only objection is the relative cost and the small size of the bottle. We pay more for less.

I have recently tried the RN colors from the new model master line and have not exactly been happy. They don’t cover very well. Brushing with them is really tough as they just don’t go on evenly. Best thing to do is prime the parts with a close or related color undercoat.

I’m actually surprised to hear that! But, this is precisely why I am asking the question.

I too bought 3 bottles of the Lifecolor paints i.e. UA 618, 622 and UA 80 for my Banner 1/350 Arizona. No problem using it in my airbrush straight, colors looks good and I plan on using it on the Trumpeter Arizona kit, would just need to get a couple extra bottles for that build.
