Howdy everyone. So I am new here and pretty new to scale modeling. I built models when I was a teen but that was 35 years ago. I have started building some models in the last few months.
Working on a Monogram 1:35 Sherman tank, Revell 1:48 B-25J Mitchel bomber and an Academy 1:72 P47D Thunderbolt.
I am a miniatures painter but love scale military models so decided to start down that path and see how faithfully I can recreate these great machines from history. I certainly have a lot to learn about scale modeling so figured this would be a good place to start.
The Academy kit is a nice looking one and the one I am focusing the most on right now =)
If you have any recommendations or tips as it concerns that kit I am all ears.
Oh and if it comes out as nice as I want it to I plan on doing a diorama with it, something along the lines of an airfield in England so might need some insight [;)]
This was mine i built last year. I did add some resin, cockpit, gun bays, but even without extras its a nice kit. I don’t recall any majopr issues with the kit, built up nicley. Academy decals can be an issue, for older kits i have managed to avoid useing them. I have a thing for aircraft based in Norfolk so has some AM decals for mine.
I have a few more of these in the stash to do at some point.
Hey Bish, thanks for the photo, those Academy Jugs do look nice for such a good price and simple build. Good job with that one. I like the simplicity of the diorama, I think I will go for something along those lines with the one I am working on. Maybe I will even base it in Norfolk!
Welcome aboard, sailor! I look forward to seeing your builds, especially that Sherman and the B-25. I built those Monogram classics when I was a kid, and they still hold up pretty well today.
Hey thanks Baron. Glad you are looking forward to seeing those. That must be quite a treat to get to see someone elses builds of models you did so long ago. I look forward to finishing them.
Thanks. The vast majority of my builds are dioramas, both aircraft and armour. I try and vary them, not always easy especially with aircraft. Some are simple with just a couple of figures, others have more going on and more to see.
There were only 2 US Fighter Groups in Norfolk, one at Wretham, the other at Bodney, famous for its blue nosed P-51’s. But a few bomber groups used P-47’s as assembely ships.
