Hi, my name is Stefan, I am 61 years old and from Germany. Like many of us I am on and off modelling, which started in my childhood - remembering me and an Airfix 1/76 StuG III back in 1972.
I am building everything so to say - aircraft, military vehicles, cars, ships … whatever I feel at the moment. As you can imagine from my avatar and username my main interest is Luftwaffe, especially the Bf109.
Another favorite is what I loved the most as a child - the Matchbox military dioramas. I could not wait to get the newest releases! Loved these so much, I started a series for myself to build them in 1/35 scale. The M24 Chaffee and Sd.Kfz.251 are done, my latest take was the M3 Stuart “Honey” by using the Academy kit.
I never really liked the original base, so I orientated myself on reference photos from Operation Crusader. I think it is obvious what the diorama should homage anyway. The T-34 is in progress and I have all necessary kits to build them all - except for the Morris C8 truck (come on Bronco, Gekko or Mirror, do it! ). But I have the Gekko C8 tractor, which is the closest so far.
Enough of the waffle - I am looking forward to see your great work, share my knowledge and learn new things from you guys
Welcome! I have a couple ideas for desert dioramas in planning. I have the Tamiya SAS jeep, the Tamiya LRDG truck, the Tamiya M13/40, the Tamiya Panzer IIF and the Italeri Crusader. There is at least 3 dioramas in that collection. Your effort has inspired me!
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
I am not sure if this is the right place to do, but because a few people asked I took some photos of selected builds to showcase.
This is my 1/35 Sd.Kfz.251 I was talking about, or Hanomag how it was named by Matchbox, with the 1/76 original in the top right corner. It is the Zvezda kit with Soga figure set and Miniart base. My plan is to remove the frame (someday) to mount the scene on a suitable piece of foam.
To add dramatic to the Vietnam Huey scene I tried to make the rotors look spinning. Quite happy with the rear, on the main rotors I should done something different. Additional I should have done research beforehand to make the model a true UH-1D. Kit is the 1/48 KittyHawk with three self-printed figure sets using Germania Figuren files.
As I said, I really like the Bf109. A good dose of patriotism may play a role as well, I think it is a beautiful and interesting aircraft – and the choice of different schemes is endless. Some 1/48 Eduard examples.
I hope you enjoyed this degression - I enjoyed every minute of the builds
My next task is to dip my toe into unknown waters, like color modulation, post shading etc.
