Peter Jackson (Director of the Lord of the Rings Trillogy) is indeed doing King Kong next. I can think of no one better- it’s his favorite film and he intends to make it a “period piece” true to the original film’s spirit. Kong will be realised by the same method and actor that did “Gollum”

I’ve been getting kinda tired of “modernized” remakes. It’ll be great to see Kong swatting at biplanes, rather than getting pulped with a single Maverick by an Apache or Comanche!
I agree, Jhulk. I wish someone would make a version of War of the Worlds in it’s original setting-late 19th century-seeinga dreadnought go up against the Martians would be so cool.
King Kong. Now that’s a real classic. It would be nice indeed if they could re-do the original thing but maintain the story and setting.
Would be nice, but I think it will only results in another mangled version like:
Rollerball, Time Machine, etc.
Somehow they don’t seem to like to stick to the original script and have to rewrite half the story and change fundamental basics/rules of the original.
To be honest I get the feeling that Hollywood is running out of ideas and than copy an old story title, fraction of the story line and a few characters name to make their “OWN” version of what they think the story should be like.
Relying on the name and fame of the original to draw in viewers.
OTOH, if they really did a “War of the Worlds” Movie I hope that they will use Jeff Wayne’s CD/soundtrack and incorporate it into the Movie.

I agree but I still would like to see a re-make of Top Gun with the real or CGI mig-28? (ok maybe mig-29) he-he-he. They can keep the original story if they wanted to.
Or Battle of the Bulge with realistic/historically correct looking Shermans and Tigers, too.
My thoughts exactly! WotW is what kindled my interest in sc-fi! I’d love to steam powered battle ships slugging it out against Martian heat rays and poison gas! I have always dreamed someone would make WotW based on the book. The Time Machine had so much potential and it was wasted. Half the time the movie couldn’t decide weather the Morlocks were light sensitive or not, there was no reason to destroy the machine, full of paradoxes, etc. You get the Idea![V] Any way i welcome a true Kong. We Americans already screwed up Godzilla.
