Unless they are absolutely dirt cheap, don’t be disappointed if you miss the two Airfix Tomcats. They hail from about 1975 or so and are quite primitive by current standards. They also represent an early production batch with the full beaver tail, so without modification, you can really only build birds from the two squadrons (VF-1 & VF-2) offered in the kit decals.
The Airfix Tomcats are pretty basic, but fun builds with a couple good choices as far as external armaments. The variable-geometry swing wings are well engineered and work well. The interior is a little sparse with generic flight crew, but overall, a great kit.
The Corsair is a mixed bag. It looks the part once built, but it has many ‘working’ features that make the build a little difficult.
Sounds like you have a few good builds in your future; enjoy them!
Well…the two Airfix kits I didn’t win. I was outbid with about a minute left, and I had a price I was willing to pay, and it was more than what I planned. No big loss there really, they were 1/72 kits.
I’ve gotten the F4U-4 Kit, and have it about 85% or so done. I’m waiting on paint. The paints were supposed to be here today, but the good old USPS, sent them to the wrong city. Guessing they will be here tomorrow. As for the “moving” parts. Some work well, the folding wings were crap imo.
The F-15 Eagle arrived today, and well…they sent me the wrong kit. So, we are going to find out how good the seller is, or how good eBay’s “Money Back Guarantee” is. They sent me the right kit…but wrong scale(I bought the 1/48, and they sent me 1/72)
So, I’ll give them a few days to see what they want to do…and go from there.
Well, I heard from the eBay seller this morning. Great news!
They are sending out the correct kit(already have the tracking info for it) and they told me to keep the 1/72 kit. They apoligized for the mix up and were glad to make it right.
