Hello everyone, my name’s Jeremy and I’m just getting into modeling; haven’t done it since I was a kid! I’ve been reading a lot here and on other forums and websites and doing a TON of video watching on techniques and on just about anything else model related really.
Getting into scale aircraft is something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time and not too long ago I found myself sitting around at home wishing I had a new hobby, something I could really get into and spend a lot of time learning and practising and realized it was the perfect time to just take up the craft I’ve been waiting to do for forever. After that is when I started doing research and just trying to get as much general knowledge before committing to a build.
I love WWII era aircraft, especially the Japanese Zeros. I just finished my first kit, a 1/48 A6M2… well, not exactly finished. I still have a little painting to do and have to finish the prop but it’s mostly done. I learned a lot but ended up with a ton of questions than I could figure out on my own so figured it was not a bad time to speak up and start talking to other folks with similar interests.
Without writing a novel, that’s about it so far. Personally, I’m 29, have a wife I’ve been married to for 10 years in November and we have a 7 year old son and a 1 year old Doberman puppy. We live in central New Hampshire which after growing up in southeastern Arizona I have really grown to fall in love with. I also love mountain biking, something that goes very well with the woods and elevation change up north here; can’t do that year-round though, so figured while I’m being lazy in winter and in the evenings it’s a good time to glue and pain plastic
Welcome to the Hobby Jeremy. My name is Jim and I am a plasticaholic. I love the smell of plastic in the morning. I build whatever strikes my fancy when I see it. I have been building for 66 of my 72 years. Anything that they have made kits of, I have built. It’s a great hobby to have if you want to spend some quality time with your son. I had 2 girls. Built dollhouses for them. Spent lots of time looking for fancy paper to wallpaper them with. Now you can print up your own. I have one grandson that is interested in watching me work and asks lots of questions but isn’t ready to build, yet. He’s into Soccer now and he’s very good. I spend lots of time going to watch him play. One day, before he discovers girls, I might see him actually build something. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the hobby (even though it does get frustrating some time). If you need help, just ask and someone will get back to you with the answer you need or let you know where to go to get it. Again, welcome aboard.

Great to have you here. You should post some pics of the Zero, we all like pics! Great bunch of folks here that are more than willing to pass on some advice, so ask away! Look forward to seeing your builds!

Oh, there is a model show in Richmond, VT this weekend. Not sure how far that is for you, but just in case you didn’t know.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone Glad to see some friendly folks, makes settling in much easier! I’ll have to snap and upload some photos of the Zero. I just started an A6M3 also but I don’t know how fast my initial progress will be. I don’t have a compressor yet and I find $13.50 for a can of compressed air just a little offensive lol. Richmond, VT is only a couple hours away from me so I may just go to that show… Would be exciting to check it out. I’ll look around online but I’ll ask real quick, does anyone have a link or additional info about it? Thanks again everyone.
Welcome ! Your only 29??? Man I have models in my stash older than you. LOL. Have fun in the forums and yes please post pictures of your builds ! As for questions… I thought I could speed up assembly by mixing the glue with the paint. But the result was… well… Can you tell me where I went wrong???
Thanks Eagle, I’m hoping I’ll go. I’d like to make a trip like that with someone to talk to so I’m seeing if I can wrangle a buddy to come along. Might even consider asking my wife, just not sure how much fun she’ll have lol. My brother would come but of course that’s the one time ever that he’s decided to spend the weekend in RI with another friend and his wife.
Hey Timmy, you must have quite a stash, I’ve got my first Zero to completely finish, the A6M3 I just started and a bf109 I haven’t got into yet. That’s it for me but I can see how people’s stashes get so big, I already have the itch to buy more kits; looking into them, reading up on other people’s similar builds and going over the parts and imagining how to put it together is fun in itself, lol.
No problem. I’m looking to have someone come with me too…might need help carrying all the kits![:$]
I’d like to bring the wife too, but don’t think she would have much fun either. She would be watching a 2 and 9 year old while I’m running around like a kid myself! Hope to see you there!

Welcome. I just gotten back into the hobby myself after 20 plus years. So far I’ve finished a 1/72nd scale F4U-! Corsair (whcih reminds me I have to post the pic on here later). I’m just about almost finished with a 1/48th scale P-47 Thunderbolt Razorback. The Corsair is already given to a co-worker of mine to show my appreciation for helping me with various things. The P-47 will go to my bro-in-law.
I still got more kits to work on - a P-51D Mustang Redtail (painting and decals) that will stay with me.
