Hey all!
I was looking at R2’s web page, and the only pending kit of the new E is a 1/2500 kit pre-painted, snap together.

Wasn’t there talk of a 1/1400 or so kit that you actually have to build and paint yourself, or an I being delusional?

Well, your falling into the same trap that everyone does with scifi. ‘pre painted snap together’ is a gimmick that is actuality quite a good one. Its what hooked me, actiually. What better way then to get a kid and give him a model that fits together and when snapped looks fairly like what it should. That kid gets older looks at it, decided to paint it, decided to get harder kits, etc etc.
Iv gotten good results out of snap togethers, dont just assume since its a snap that its bad.
I had no idea they were making one of this kit in any scale, so this was like a bonus. Plus, I had never seen the R2 site before - now I’m really looking forward to that MPC Pilgrim Observer kit. [H]
With the plethora of Trek kits out there, I have no doubt that they will get around to kiting this ship in multiple scales.
I am not so much concerned with the snap-together part. Nothing is stopping me from gluing and gap filling. I am mainly unhappy with the small scale, and the pre-painted. Might as well buy a die cast replica instead of modeling.
See, most people hear prepainted and think its prepainted, but at most its a blotch of color here or there, or even just the parts are molded in a different color.
Yes, the E model in 1/1400 scale has been out. I’ve seen it listed in stock on www.plastic-modeles.com for a little over $20. Should be pretty big at 19" in length.

Don’t worry about prepainted kits. Sometimes their prepainted surface is less than ideal to repaint but a can of primer will do the trick.

I guess my concern is losing detail. It’s already 1/2500 scale, so it’d be pretty easy to have even a thin primer coat over existing paint obscure the details. Call me a model snob, and again, snap-together doesn’t thrill me, but is not a big deal either, but I want bare plastic to paint my way!
