I need to point out that the airbrush is a H&S Evolution 2024 2 in 1, not the older version. I should have noted that in the title. My bad!
I did a 1:1 comparison between the Evolution 2024 (.28 needle) and my current AB, a Paasche Talon (.25 needle).
My observations:
Mediums used
Stynylrez primer, gray and black
50/50 Tamika color paint/X20A thinner, German gray
Spray
Both were able to lay down primer not thinned at 20 psi. Results are equally smooth and uniform.
Paint was a different story. At 10 psi, the Talon was able to put down pencil lead width lines where the Evolution was able to half that width.
The Evo (Evolution 2024) was far more comfortable in my hand and the trigger was much smoother to operate. It is smoother operating than the Talon with the needle lubed.
I periodically had to clean the tip of the Talon during the painting sessions where the Evo was cleaned once. Sprayed about 5 minutes each.
Clean
While both were easy to clean, the Evo was much easier. The hole between the cup and the airbrush needle was uniform in diameter. A Qtip fit all the way to the bottom where the Talon has a smaller chamber between the cup and needle which makes clean a bit more involved.
Other observations
The Talon I have requires Iwata super lube to prevent small air leaks and I need a wrench to remove the nozzle where the Evo required no tools and no added lube to disassemble/reassemble.
I got the Evo 2in1 version. The Talon has a large cup and can be a bit of a pain to spray small amounts. The Evo, just change the cup.
I am really happy with my new Evo. The Talon and Raptor have be relegated to backup duties.
At the end of the day, other than annoying issues with air leaks, I would have kept using the Talon without a thought. It’s actually a very capable airbrush. However, the Evo 2024 out performed it in every way. Am super glad I got the Evo. The Talon is now on the shelf as a backup.
