I am a English expat living in Sydney and have recently rekindled my interest in building FSMs. I am working on the Airfix Handley Page 0/400 biplane bomber and it is nearing completion but I have a problem! I don’t think the undercarriage will support the weight of the plane. In fact I have already had a problem with an axle breaking. This is a shot in the dark but is there anywhere I can get a stronger undercarriage (say in metal)?
Sorry about the problem you’re having Springy67. Being that I build armour and not aircraft, I really can’t help you with this problem. I just stopped over to welcome you to FSM. If you place this post in the Aircraft Forum, I’m sure someone in there can be of assistance to you.
Good Luck
I would have thought that strengthening the parts would have been possible: the axle that goes through two wheels on each side of the fselage can easily be replaced by a bit of heavy-gauge wire, while the leg that goes through each fairing can also be replaced. Superglue the bits of metal where they join, near the wheels centres and you should be oK.
Hi ya Springy67 …

It looks like you have already gotten a couple of good suggestions to help solve your landing gear problems … good luck … and again welcome !!! [:D]
Thanks for joining in. Hope you enjoy your stay at the ‘Hotel California’ … you can never leave…

Hi from cold damp wet old England. Hows the sunburn in sydney?Ha Ha Welcome to the forum. I built the 0400 some time ago it took its own weight ok That was until my Avro York rolled off the top of a cupboard and did a kamikazi on it and a few others LOL (NOT). you could try building a full new u/c from soldered piano wire and plastic card i tried this on a fairey 111f that had a bust undercart when i bought it. It worked ok. Hope this helps…Gregers
