If it ain’t broke…DON"T FIX IT!!!
I agree. The old site was much easier to use. It was nice to be able to log in and see all of the categories: aircraft, autos space, etc in one listing. The upgrade is disappointing and the lime green color is terrible.
WHAT THE… well its about time! I dont know if I like this. It will take some time to getting used to it…Harv
Agreed! I stuck with the FSM forums because they were simple and easy to use. Navigation is horrible. What happened to the forum links at the bottom of the pages? Scroll all the way down to read the posts, then scroll all the way back up to jump to another area? NG! DcaponeII is right… the old saying always applies.
And where are all the cool smileys??? The new ones remind me of a bad Mr. Bill nightmare! [N]
[Z] [&] [co]… Really?
HA!
Well, I guess I have to try posting something so I can start figuring this thing out. I can’t seem to find “My Forums” any more. Is it gone or just restarted?
Just trying the “quote” button.
I liked the old forums better too. Much easier to use. My only complaint with the old forum was I thought it needed an updated look. I like the color change here but the pages are way to busy for my tastes.
I’m not at all pleased about this so-called ‘update’. It has numerous problems, but the biggest one is all the translation exception errors that are scattered through out anything from the old forum.
Example:
System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at Kalmbach.CS2008.Common.GetNewImage(String source, Int32 MaxWidth, Boolean ShowDisclaimer)
There needs to be a LOT more testing before anyone is going to be satisfied with this ‘improvement’.
Cheers,
Alex
I just went through this at work. They changed our operating system to help us. The new system is supposed to be improved, and easier to use. It’s the worst system I’ve ever seen. We’re going out of our minds with it. Hard to navigate, locking up at the worst times, etc. Found out a few weeks after the change that the old system was costing them $8000-$10,000 a month, the new and improved system is $2500 flat. I wouldn’t doubt that that’s what’s going on here. I’m sure they didn’t change because it cost more. I’ve been on here for about 15 minutes and I don’t like it. It might take some getting used to but it will never be like it was, simple and easy. This will discourage new members.

Another vote for the old format! Once the bugs are worked out, I’m sure it’ll work as designed, but the FSM Forum I’ve grown accustomed to lurking on sure was clean and friendly.

…Old members too…[:@]
I miss the old format as well. I’m sure that eventually we (who remain) will get used to it but for now I much preferred the old system. This one is slow and does not provide the content overview the old one did just to mention a few shortcomings that I see. Oh well, it’s their site they can do what they want.
I actually don’t have a problem with the new site. It’s a refreshing update in my opinion, as the old site looked, well just that, old and dated. The new site has interesting features, many of which I haven’t explored yet but I like the idea of How-To videos and the Tips Archive. I work for a web based technology company so I know the difficulty that comes with new applications and updates. It will take a little time to iron out the little things, like the formatting issues within the Forum, but those are small potatoes really. Once the errors are eliminated, I think it will do well in attracting new users with its more modern look. Lastly, the look has changed but the content and the community hasn’t and that is what matters. I’m still here, you’re still here, and we can still come together to talk about modeling and share what we have to offer.
It took me about 2.3 seconds to figure out how to use the new system here. What’s the Big Deal? Sure, it looks a little different - not totally - and sure, it’s a bit of a different color (I prefer this to the red myself) but, overall, it’s the same place with the same functionality. It’s the same as it was, just a slightly different layout.
Honestly, I don’t see as much change as I was expecting (and, in some cases, hoping) to see. So I guess I am on the other end fo the stick here. Change is part of daily life in the modern world of technology. Those that don’t keep up, perish.
I hope that all of you who don’t like green stay around. What’s more important - the green or the content and community built around what we are here for anyway?

Content and community. What content? It’s all gone. You can only go back a few pages. If they don’t fix this we will lose a whole lot of modeling info. This is what I come here for. As of now it’s gone.

If I use Firefox the template is broken and un readable. I let them know about it even sent them a screen shot. I distrust using IE so I might have to avoid the forum until the glitches are fixed.
To me the new format seems more complicated and I design sites for our customers.
Well I can’t say if I like it or not, but it is definitely going to take some getting used too.
I mentioned this in another thread, but I guess it bears mentioning here - all of the old content is there, you just have to work a little to find it. At the top of each forum, on the right, is a link thingy called ‘Sorting and Filtering’. Apparently, the default filter is to show posts out to two months. However, if you click that link a screen pops up that you can use to set your own filtering levels. Select ‘Show All’ and you’ll have everything back…
It’s okay, but I could do without ads taking up a third of the page. Put them on top or bottom, but don’t waste all the viewing area on the side.
