Does anyone know anything about this “New” Revell 1/48 F-4J Blue Angels kit?
Is it new tooling, reboxed old kit or what? Thanks.[alien]
Hiya yard,
I am not positive but I beleive it may be either the ol Monogram Kit or Hasegawas…
I am leaning more towards the Monogram kit myself. Wondering how the decals are??
Flaps up, Mike
the decals had better be good ! yellow decals on top of a blue aircraft are tricky…
Speaking of such – that is, Blue Angels decals – has anyone had any experience with the CAM Blue Angels set? Is it opaque over the blue? And, I have heard, though I haven’t tested it personally, that Model Master’s Blue Angels blue, after it’s been applied to a whole airplane, doesn’t make for a good match for the real thing. I’ve only tested it on plastic card, and it looks right to me, but I’ve heard complaints that it’s too gray. The MM color I find too gray is their Sea Blue, but now I’ve REALLY gotten off the topic.
As for the kit, 'Bird, if you find out whose it is, let us know. If it’s the Hasegawa kit at a reasonable price, I wouldn’t mind having it. I actually got to see the blues in their Phantoms just before they went to the A-4 at an airshow in Galveston about 1972. Made me want to be a naval aviator, but they weren’t looking for 16-year-old high school dropouts.

Sharkskin,
When I put together a Blue Angels F/A-18 I used CAM decals over Testors MM Acryl Blue Angels Blue and it turned out fine. The kit’s (Revell/Monogram) original decals were too transparent. CAM’s were bright and heavy. I didn’t think the Blue Angels Blue wasn’t too far off and to confirm I showed it to a Marine Maintainer who used to work on the jets themselves and he said that it’s pretty accurate.
Thanks for all of the responses. My enthusiasm for buying this kit has cooled off somewhat. I already have a couple of the Monogram 1/48 “J” models, so I just as well get some AM decals and go with that. [alien]
BlackWolf,
Thanks for the info, so that means it still has the incorrect AF back consoles for the back seater. I was hoping it was a corrected Hawsegawa kit.
