At last, I have my brand new 1/72 Revell MiG-21F-13… All I can say is that it was WELL worth the wait. It is just beautiful!
Run, propel yourself, fly to your hobby shop and get yourself one (or more!).
The plasic is silver (the only annoying thing about this kit but Revell is known for annoying colors of plastic!), the engraving is really fine, the parts beautiful, the decals superb, the instruction sheet quite comprehensive and detailled. There are tons, tons of stencils on this decal sheet, plus the markings for 2 East-German, 1 Soviet and 3 Finnish MiG-21s. Only one of those is camouflaged all the others are natural metal birds. The canopy comes in 3 parts (there the added armoured glass to make it three!). There’s some nice details inside the two-part exhaust pipe, the cockpit details are gorgeous too (the seat is a 3 piece affair!).
I love Migs, especially the Fishbed. I agree with Lufbery, it will display nicely by one or more Phantoms, can you say “surrounded”. I’ll have to get 1 or more. [alien]
You know, I hate to be a spoil sport,. but I never did like the way the early mig-21’s looked. Now as for the later ones, I’m absolutely in love with those. Nice looking kit thoguh.
I prefer the more steamlined look of the early MiG-21s, however, the later model ones look pretty good too.
The thing is, I’ve wanted an early MiG-21 for three years now – since I saw the real thing at the Smithsonian’s Garber Restoration Facility (with the wings off), and again the next year at the Udvar-Hazy Center (all in one piece).
Eastern Express have a fairly new early Fishbed too, and a Mongol too…! But I’m scared of them ever since I bought the BAC Lightning that had fences as panel lines… However, I would not mind tring to graft the Mongol canopy to Revell’s new little gem…
