In February, I had my logitech mouse die on me. So I bought a new mouse from tiger direct. I went with “Verbatim” brand. Not only is it too small, ( I wanted a smaller mouse) but now the scroll wheel doesn’t work. I can’t send it back, because I sent the receipt to a company called called Everyday Gold. They had a rebate for these things. And just recently received a letter from them stating they had no record of my purchase. Tiger Direct is a good company, but forget about a rebate. That part is a scam. And stay away from Verbatim. Some of you may have good luck with Verbatim, I’ll never buy their produts again.
My logitech mouse died on me a year or so ago. Now I got a cheapo mouse from Five Below because I liked the red and blue lights on it. LOL! I do want to get a new gaming mouse eventually - preferably Logitech. I do love to get the Razor mouse but they’re freakin’ expensive!
Hey, we’ve got a Logitech mouse with a retractable cord and the infrared reader instead of the ball. It was actually pretty cheap and has had no problems. It fits comfortably in your hand and every function is smooth and quick. However, the cord will sometimes spontaneously retract when sitting unattended. At which time it may then become upset from it’s resting place and be sent swinging around, dangling from it’s cord, over the table edge, it’s piercing red light sending a crazy dot dancing all over the walls and ceiling . I’ve had it long enough now that, when this occurs, I no longer dive for cover and hide my head fearing that the sniper outside with the laser sight on his rifle will find his mark.
Speaking as an IT tech for a well-known Uni, who has problems with my hands…
I strongly recommend Microsoft or Logitech OPTICAL full-sized mice (& keyboards). They have some of the best ergonomics, and your paws won’t hurt so much.
MS also do a small (kids size) mouse which is an option for some!
Avoid those mini & micro mice, they will turn your hands into claws. Remember if it hurts, stop doing it, & take medical advice.
Years ago I had a nice, wireless optical mouse from Microsoft. Worked fine until one one of those famous Microsoft “upgrades” killed my blue tooth. Spent hours on the phone with a tech who could not get it working again. I gave up, went to Best Buy and bought the cheapest USB mouse they had- a Dynex, less than $20.00.
It’s an optical mouse, and it started working the minute I plugged it in, has been fine ever since.
I’m going out shopping for a Apple computer soon.
Wow, I have a bunch of Verbatim 5.25 floppy disks around somewhere but had no idea Verbatim was still around.
I’ve always had good luck with Logitech and Microsoft products.
I was a hard-core MS mouse fan until two uber expensive all singing & all dancing Intellimice croaked, one shortly after the other - I’ve since moved onto Logitech & found them as good, they don’t seem to last as well (generally) as MS mice, but they aren’t as expensive either…
I have used Logitech optical and most have been great, with one or two clunkers. Right now I am using the mouse that came with my HP system and it works great. I like using a mouse that will work off a bare surface as I hate pads-they never stay put!
I’ve been using my Logitec mouse for years with no problems. The next one will also be Logitec if this one dies.

Big Lot’s “no one ever heard of” brand for cool colors, lights etc. they don’t last long a year or so if lucky but are cheap
I picked up a gaming mouse a few months ago- it has fifteen buttons (!) and LEDs that make it glow all pretty but still I think the Logitech and Microsoft mice work better. The gaming mouse is rechargable but the LED’s suck so much juice it seems I’m constantly having to recharge it. Since I don’t leave my PC on when I’m not using it the other ones were just more convenient as the battery would last three-four months. Guess I could just turn off the LEDs but gee- pretty colours!!!
Been using a Logitech Trackman Wheel that uses the thumb to move the ball that I have had for at least 7 years. Absolutely love it and could never go back to using a normal mouse. Unfortunately the new ones are wireless which personally I do not like.
Gamera, a while back I picked up a Razor Naga Molten as well, used it for about 2 hours and put it back in the box. It is currently for sale on Craigslist. Just couldnt get used to using the keypad on the side at all and not to mention having to move it all around my desk.
Cool Jester, I’ve looked at one of those but wasn’t sure if I’d like the wheel or not. Is it anything like an arcade Trakball (I think was Atari’s copyright name) - I remember it was really good for playing Centipede! Not having to slide the darn mouse around looks like a good idea.
Funny I love the Naga, darn good mouse. And it would probably work great if you leave you computer on 24/7. The big issue is I turn on my PC in the evening when I use it, then turn it off when I go to bed. If I left the mouse in the stand charging overnight and while I’m at work I’m sure it would work pretty well. And yeah, I still haven’t gotten used to hitting the hot keys without taking my eyes off the screen to look at it!
