So… Um. I don’t usually join forums and I am certain that I will not be welcomed because of my chosen model media but I’m here for like one thing so I am just throwing feelers out there.
I am a… Gunpla Modeler and all that entails. So Bandai, Kotobukiya and the like.
There are probably better places for this media but I saw on a google search a discussion that was pertinent to my current project.
Welcome aboard. I have no idea what Gunpla is, but we have modeleres building all types of subjects here, so i am sure you will find some one who shares your interets.
You are right, it’s not exactly the main topic here. But lots of discussion about techniques of model building, painting and photography of everything. Well, just about everything-there are rules.
Hey, Bish, it’s a Japanese portmanteau word (now there’s a throwback to grammar school English class!) of the words, “Gundam plastic model”. I think the Japanese create a lot of words that way, by the way.
Welcome to the forum, satoshisangel! As the others have said, all genres are welcome here, and you’ll probaby find some other Gundam builders here, too. I think more modelers here in the West are taking them up. I build Maschinen Krieger kits myself, besides historical models, and toy soldiers.
Hee hee, yeah the Japanese like to coin new words by combining and contracting:
Pasocon = Personal Computer
Conbini = Convenience Store
Sekuhara = Sexual Harassment [:O]
But sometimes they don’t. For example, CA glue is “shunkan setchakku zai” = instant adhesive, not Suupa Gloo. [:P] And sometimes they ride the fence. Baseball can be “Ba-su Bo-ru” or “Yakyu”. I am wondering if they loved the game so much that they gave it a proper Japanese word. As my Japanese uncle who umpires in minor league is fond of saying, “STO-RAIKKU!!!” Football is still "Foot-O Bo-ru"and soccer is “Sakka”.
Well what took you so long ? I am trying to find the right subject to get Gundam close to MaschinenKreiger . So don’t worry , we are interested, I like the small units that look like Fatter Robots with the heads missing .You know, the driver sits in the Chest Cavity ! .
I think you’ll find yourself more than welcome here.
I was introduced to this genre a couple years back visiting my stepson’s family in Orange County. One of the young adult brothers-in-law builds them. It was intriguing to me seeing a young person (meaning under 40 to me), sitting on the floor putting a model together whilst watching TV with the family.
I’ve kicked around trying one myself as I’m away from my bench for a while and it might be an option.
