new Butcher Bird

here is tamiya’s Fw 190A-3. I have had a lot of time lately. I built it out of the box with Model Master enamels. the instrument panel has had a subsequent application of gloss to simulate glass. Tonight and tomorrow afternoon I hope to apply decals.

the Cockpit

ready to paint, I used a permanent marker prewash

some major paint chipping problems.

Nice job !

How did you paint those spots on both sides of the fuselage ??

Is there any special trick for those ??

I am trying to figure out how to do this :

Greg

you have to have guts to do that one

I did the mottling with a double action airbrush and a lot of time.

to do that scheme however I dont think my airbrush can go that small, I have seen that scheme done in a review. I will try to dip it up. The first thing that comes to my mind is to use a tooth brush and spatter it, a bit messy but I would think it would do the job.

Dose this help.

Thanks ! It will do it

Looking forward to see your completed project

Greg

looking good, the FW 190 is a great looking aircraft. Nice work on the paint job.

GZT: Never tried it, but supposedly you can recreate that with a sponge.

Looks good so far. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Yes, a sponge works pretty well for the “stippling” on Wick’s aircraft. I used some of my wife’s make up sponge, dip it in the paint and tap it on a paper towel until the paint is almost removed then slowly build it up the paint on the fuselage.

Have you applied the gloss coat yet? I’ve tried the permanet marker method before and experienced severe bleed through after the gloss coat was applied.

Thanks Mikester !

I will use it on my Me 108

Greg

thank you everyone for your kind words. Today after drivers ed I will post some picsof decals.

as far as the prewash I drew the marker right over the plastic, then preped and painted as usual, with the blue it took a few coats to properly cover it. I got no bleading.

yetti0010,

Very nice work on the 190.

Lookin’ real sharp there yeti. I have used markers for shading inside cokpits and not had any problem with bleed either.

thanks, I added some dacals yesterday

I added some weathering. Not done yet but getting there, I used a combination of mig pigments and ordenary chalk pastels. I added the broken gun barrel.

Looking good so far! The weathering came out nice–noticeable but not overdone.

Mark

Excellent work! keep posting so I can take more inspiration from your fine work.

thanks, the only thing I have to do is add the canopy but I butchered it so I am waiting to figure out away to get it to work. and add the antenna wire, and brake lines.
