OK, I broke down and bought a Badger Velocity from Amazon. Came in the “fancy” case, but when I opened it up and removed the brush is seemed to be kind of “greasy”. I started to play around and soon discovered that is was oozing what looked like black vaseline from the trigger rearward.
I disassembled it and used windex and them IPA 70% and cleaned it all out. I put it all back together and it seems to be fine. I just received it today, so I haven;t had a chance to use it yet. Was this some kind of packaging and the thing had been sitting around for a long time in the heat? The grease was tough to get all out of the parts. There seems to be no issues and nothing was amiss.
I’ve bought about 15 airbrushes over the years and never ran into anything like that.
If you bought it from Amazon itself and not a vendor they have a very liberal return policy. You do have to be aware of time limits. Every problem I’ve had with Amazon or a vendor has been resolved quickly with 100% satisfaction. There was one occasion where I was at fault and they still took care of me. Since you have cleaned it all that “gunk” isn’t there for them to see. I would use it ASAP to insure it works properly.
Well, I tried it out and sprayed just fine after a good cleaning. I am wondering if someone had used it, retuned it and it was then resold? Maybe they used some needle juice or something and it sat for many months.
I got some good fine lines, but that old tip dry is a bother.
Good one:) I posted another thread that mixing the paint at about 1:1 with Golden’s Medium has made all the difference in the world. I can spray at 14 PSI and just use a swab in clear water to wipe the tip usually when I stop and then reset for the next go. Brush works really well.
I live in Phoenix and we have next to no humidity so all the dry air makes it harder than ever.
Sounds like you got one that someone used, and returned to the store. They should have returned it to the distributor for credit, not put it back on the shelf for someone else to buy. I used to work in a retail store that sold a lot of electronics. They had a shrink-wrap machine in the back, and they would rewrap returned items, even software, and resell it looking good as new. I always thought that was a dirty trick. I got out of there as soon as something better came along!
