New Academy Chopper

I just received in the mail, to my delight (and after about a six-month wait), Academy’s new CH-46E Bullfrog. It looks like a fine model, though not nearly as detailed as I expected. Is FSM or an independent modeler planning to review this kit? I selfishly like to learn from the kit woes of others, though I’d be willing to review it myself if there are no takers.

Now that doesn’t sound to good…are you comparing the Bullfrog to the other MRC/Academy helos like the1/35 Nam helos or the UH-60 kits…is it just not as loaded as those kits?

Will this detail set make a big difference?

Papa,

Ya know, given all the hype I just expected a loaded kit, but I haven’t looked at it that closely yet. The only other Academic chopper I’ve built was one of the Huey’s (the attack version–I forget the specific designation), and it was an MRC. It was pretty detailed but had a number of other rather challenging flaws (with the fit of the larger components, primarily). The Bullfrog is probably comparable. I intend to make the Bullfrog my next project, so I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks very much, btw, for the link; I may just have to pick up the resin set, though I wish it had some pe parts too.

Check this out.

Got mine two days ago - looks to be pretty interesting.

I’m going to get this kit just so i can rape parts off of it. Definitely going to get the Cobra Company detail set to go along with it.

Should help my 1/48 Aurora HC-1B conversion to “D” model quite well.
