Here are a few pix of the previously announced 1/48 Firefly and Cromwell kits from Tamiya, as well as an Afrika Korps version of their Tiger I, which I had not heard anything about until I took this picture at a Tamiya Showcase event in Tokyo last weekend.
The Firefly and Tiger are slated for a May release, with the Cromwell slated for April.
Nothing really new info-wise, but I thought ya’ll might like to see 'em:
I note the box art sitting up behind the Cromwell… looks like it’s ready for sale to eager builders! If it’s to be released in April, we can look forward to a double-release month with the StuG III G !.. and then another double-release month in May !!! Oh…my… with the HobbyBoss expected T-34 release also in April… we could suffer a quarterscale over-dose… !
I really love Tamiya’s line up of 1/48 armor kit’s. So far, I’ve only built their M4 Sherman and Tiger I kit. Both were very enjoyable and fun builds. I’m sure these new kits will be the same. Thanks for the glimpse.
Kul, thanks Brian for sharing these. Looks like next up should be the King Tiger… keep us updated on that as well pleeeaaazze. That is probably still bigger than the 1/35 Sherman… if I remembered correctly while doing that Bandai KT long time ago.
The Firefly looks menacing … we had heard earlier that Tamiya would accelerate their releases as competitors joined the 1/48 party. It appears they are doing just that… Perhaps the TigerII , or KVs will be on display at the May Hobby Show,… as prototypes…
Thanks for the preview J-Hulk! I was planning on converting my M4 to a Firefly with conversion kits, but now I can plan on something else, maybe an add-on Caliope! Can’t wait for the Firefly, though!
Yes, thus far only SkyBow has challenged Tamiya, but that’s about to change some. HobbyBoss has scheduled their T 34 for an April release. If you’ve seen the HobbyBoss test sprus that have been all over the various quarterscale sites, you have to appreciate the detail.
With this additional competition, Tamiya seems to have shifted to a higher gear, and are speeding up their releases; much to our delight.
