New 1/48 Stearman inbound!

Today I was at the LHS with my son, and in one corner they have a rack with the latest Revell releases. On the side of the rack they have flyers from Revell listing upcoming new releases. Well I had a look at the flyer, and it appears that Revell is issuing another version of their sweet new 1/48 Stearman- an aerobatic type like the ones that appear at many air shows!

Looks like a nice bit of something different.

Seen it at my hobby club, white plastic, good decals, so far as I could tell, all new moulds, & includes the internal framework, sweet

That is a nice build, all from introducing an individual like son/myself and not worry about what and or way any things If your having fun, that’s all it counts for!

That is a gorgeous air craft and way too many schemes to pick a favorite. I saw on their site that the 1/72 Type VII is also coming back.

I’ve been waiting for that one. I already had plans to hit LHS Saturday, so I will pick on up then!

As far as the kit goes, their poriginal release was excellent; HOWEVER, I was not happy at the post-war changes. Offered N numbers and marking for a restored stearman, and a switch panel in the cockpit that was not present in WWII. I feel like they should have mentioned that in the instruction for the less informed. Either way, excellent kit!

Yeah, this just might be the one to tempt me into a non military build…

Was there ever a cowled engine version built for military? I thought the idea of this kit was for the popular post war conversion with big engine and cowl, in which case it would have had a civil registration.

What engine does the kit have? Is it a 450, or the original small engine?

I’m speaking strictly of their original, wartime release. I was just not happy with Revell choosing to use the markings of a restored aircraft and including N numbers. And adding post-war parts to the kit without mentioning so (for the casual modeler or children).

WANT ONE!

Funny, never really had a desire to build a bipe. But looking at that picture, I find myself wanting this Stearman.

The N numbers are pretty easy to figure out for anybody who knows US aircraft markings of that era. But what post war parts does the kit have that should not be ther for a WWII PT? This is the first that I have heard of this and I would like to know for mine when I build it.

Absolutly; I just mean for children or the casual builder. I seem to think there was one other thing, but the only thing I can curretly remember is the switch panel on the right side of the rear cockpit. That is strictly post-war.

Here are the instruction. Refer to step 1, part number 71. On the tubular frame where the panel goes, there are two flat protrusians that the panel mounts to. Just cut those off and youre good-to-go!

I have the kit in my stash. I will update the instructions to nix that part… thank you for the info [;)]

You’re welcome!

So do not use part 71 and remove mounting nubs on framework- notated on instructions [8-|]

My girls love “those old planes with two wings”. I should pick a couple up for them. Stearmans make such nice display pieces too.

Yeah, one of each would be in order… a trainer and a stunt one… The Stearman really does have a nice allure about it in all of its’ guises
