NEW!! ...1/35 Chinook photo UPDATE!

I didnt notice no bench seats. That is lame. What weapons would you have liked to see? I do agree it lacks some detail. Then again so does the panda kit and look at this beauty put together by HeavyArty!

Troy,
Check your PMs

NICE BIRD!!!

You gotta make it to the contest at Galaxy!..You can enter all kinds of helos!

Josh, just in case…It seems that some folks are not getting my e-mails??

It takes a lot more than that to rattle my cage! NO PROBLEMO!

The Contest is at Galaxy Hobby April 8th at 10:00am to 3:00 pm…Can you make it? We can do lunch and I live VERY close to the Hobby shop and you can see my helos in person.

Seeya!

Troy

Thanks for posting the UH-1H Dust-Off I am working on for a customer. Yup, with enough TLC and elbow grease, you can polish any turd enough to look great.

Gino…That helo is just amazing! [tup]

Josh, For weapons on the 1/35 Hook it would have been cool to get at least the basic two door & window guns, mounts, amo cans etc.

Still…a cool kit to have and the parts fit has been very nice so far.

NOTE:

The brass screens at the top of the rear pylon halves need to be cut into two sections to fit properly. I also had to add some plastic to the upper canopy areas because there was gaps between the glass and the upper cockpit structure.

Hey Troy!!

I see what you are saying and I do agree with you. For the Scale and the slightly hefty price tag they could have encluded the troop seating and the M60D’s especialy sence they have the markings for one of the birds that served in Nam. Thank goodness for the after market industry Right??

Mark[:)]

Yep! I’m sure that the Chief is working as we speak on sum swell stuff for the Trump HOOK.

What a year for helo kits!

SO SAY WE ALL!

Here she is so far! All she needs now is some minor seam filler, remove the three ‘improper’ antenna mounts and next is the landing gear. I removed the three anti collision lamps and the funky FM antenna bump thing on the left side.

The kits screens fit very well and to make it more proper for an A model I filled the foward screen hole on the engine cover. I also filled the antenna holes on the canopy.

Looking Good Troy!!![8D]

I haven’t gotten that for yet but thats becouse I am makeing this bird as detailed as I can make it.[;)]

I’m getting a camera very soon and I will be sending pix of it to you to post on here for all to see.

I Ordered me a second one yesterday!! Should be here Monday. Found them on sale at Sprue Bros. Get 10% off the regular price of $108.99 untill Mar,29!!! I jumped on that deal!! I’m doing it as the high viz test bird!! I know it has the duals on the rear!!

Mark[:)]

PS In the words of McDonalds ( I’m lovin it!!!)[:P]

Mark[:o)]

Thanks Pal…I wuz up till 3:30am Last night…working on the seams and filling fine gaps with Magic Sculpt etc.

Mark, I’m running out of space on my site to post pics…if you can send me pics…then what you can do is find a FREE photo hosting site…simply up load your pics there and after that you can simply just cut and past the sites address here on a post or copy the photos web address/internet info and post it in your posts here by typing it like this… [img]bla bla blee bleeHook4.jpg[foward slash/img]

If you need help later with all this just e-mail me and I will walk you through it.

Hi Troy,

BEAUTIFUL work, man!! [tup] Thanks for the updates!!

Thanks for posting the update photos and looking forward to seeing more! [:)]

(FYI: the vent openings on the rear/top portion of the Fwd Pylon were not on the “A” models, also… the S.A.S. ports on the “A” model were on the Doghouse, not the Chin Bubbles as they appear in the kit) [tup]

Take care,

Frank

Thanks a lot man! a few more hours and I was ready for final paint! PHEW!..didn’t catch that in the books…wasn’t quit looking either.

I also removed the three antenna mast mounts that were not used on the early Hooks as well.

Everywhere I had to remove things, fill or do seam clean…I had to use a small drill in a pin vise to recreate all the surrounding recessed rivet holes…thats a drag.

Hey…I thought that Hooks had rivets that where just a above flush with the outter skin?

They did… see? [;)]

Back in '99 when I re-applied the Combat Artwork to the restoration, it was those raised rivets that allowed me to position the Name & Patches in the correct locations. [tup] (except for the Aussie Kangaroo, which was one rivet too far fwd… my bad!)

Take care,

Frank

Sooooo…Frank WAS! rivet counting…I knew it!

hehehehehehe

Frank…Was it only the new Hooks delivered to the field that had the painted ‘tread’ or ‘walk here’ black pattern along the top from pylon to pylon?

If so…did those factory markings go away with the OD combat paint?

Troy,

Yep… you got me on that one alright! [xx(] [;)]

Here’s a good picture of the typical walkway pattern on the OD Chinooks (this is “Easy Money” when the aft droop stop failed after recieving battle damage on a mission… they flew over 80nm back to An Khe, and it broke while they were shutting-down in their parking slot!! YIKES!!). They put sand in the paint to make it a no-skid surface.

Notice the spacing in the center to accomidate the HI-VIS “Stars & Bars”, (can be seen bleeding through the OD paintjob) which was initially on “Easy Money”. OD Chinooks from the factory did not have that space in the center. [tup]

Hope this helps,

Frank

Great work Troy. I am never going to remember all this info from Frank. Good thing its all logged on the forum. What mounts are you talking about that you had to remove? Or I can just wait until the 8th and see her myself![:D]
Oh… and nobody rivet counts here![:I]

Thanks Frank!

Did ALL Hooks keep that step here pattern and if so…was it allways a stripe formation or could it be a solid black?

For 1/35 scale…I wonder if a fine material could be added to a flat black paint for the effect?

Thanks Josh!

I pre-painted the OD around the cockpit and side windows so that later I would not need to put tape on clear or fragile parts.

RODS…Frank posted an example here once but if you have the Squadron book on hooks you can see that that the early A models Hook had a few less FM antenna mounting rods on the left side…basicly this kit is all D from the rear pylon section foward.

Ready for painting today folks! pics to come.

Papa-Echo …out…beep!

You could always use my anti-slip for armor technique using Rust-Oleum texture paint, then paint it black.

Check it out here.

That is what I will be doing.

SWEET!

I like it! Thanks!

I need to get that book. Does galaxy have any? Keep us posted on todays painting.
