Needed quick- Awesome Aviation Photos!

Ok, here’s the deal. We’re working on a project in my drawing class at college, and the instructor said for the next drawing we can draw pretty much anything we want. Up until this all we’ve done are still lifes, so this is an excellent opportunity to combine my love of drawing with that of airplanes.

Thing is, I don’t know what to draw! [:P]

This is where I need your help. If any of you have any really cool aircraft photos that would look awesome as a charcoal drawing, let me know and post it here!

A few guidlines-

  • I like stuff big.
  • I like stuff with props
  • I like the obscure (really, really, REALLY obscure!)
  • German subject help, too.

By all means, don’t be restricted to these. It’s just a starting point for what I like.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: The more black in the photo, the better. Due to the drawing technique (using an eraser to remove black as opposed to using charcoal to add black) the darker a photo is, with a very high level of contrast, the more successfully technical a drawing will be. I can always put it into photoshop and mess with this stuff, but the more I can stay away from this, the better.

As always, thanks for all your help, and I’ll be sure to put the finished drawing up on the boards!

(And yes, I’ll take a quick stroll through Blackwolf’s stuff, see what I can see.)

Thanks!!

I dont have a drawing of one but my vote is the BV 138. Its German has props is obscure and kinda big.

Obscure and big I can do. How about:

Several choices there. ANT-14, -16, -20 (Maxim Gorky), -22.

Or maybe:

Or this fun one:

(see here: http://www.pilotfriend.com/photo_albums/potty/8.htm for more info).

Don’t know how well the pictures would fit for what you want to do.

And now I think of some german options:

Junkers G.38:

Dornier Do-X:

Junkers Ju390:

Hey Lucien,

Your answer is right in front of you! The flight of the HK-1! You’d not only have a great model when its done but a great display with a drawing you did yourself!!!

Good Hunting, G.W.

I actually, kinda… already did that one.

No, seriously. Our final project in my High School art program was a pianted ceiling tile, our choice of subject matter. I chose to do the flight of the Spruce Goose! I took a picture of it (couldn’t keep the artwork), but I don’t like how it turned out. The main reason is that I can’t piant to save my life! I turned out OK, but not great. If I find a photo, I’ll put it up.

Brw1- Hm… There’s some good stuff in there! The Ju 390 is very tempting, as it is a sort of “classic” image of that aircraft. Ok, maybe it’s pretty much the ONLY image of that aircraft, but who’s counting? I’m familier with the Kalinin K-7 (and a what-if model based on it with around 14 engines!), and it would make an awesome subject. The Maxim Gorky and ANT-20 bis are also good ideas, although I’m diggin’ the angle of the ANT-22 shot…

We’ll see.

Thanks very much, guys! This has given me many new ideas on where I may take this project. Thanks.

I’m really feelin’ that shot of the K-7. The photo quality is almost like a drawing in the first place, and the sky isn’t as featureless as other photos…

We’ll see! [:D]

I really, really like the K-7 - the whole history behind the plane, the weird look, the size. I have a good set of plans and it’s pretty high on the scratchbuild list for me.
