NEED Your Advice on Dragons 1/35 FLAK 36

Just picked up this kit earlyer today and have never built anything like it before i do mostly a/c and ships and dont know where to start for info or what do’s and dont’s i should be concernd about and how to go about dealing with the metal parts. (HEEELLLPPP) Please[;)]

Thanks Rob

ok,

DO Study the Directions closely. Sometimes it is easier to assemble parts at different stages.

DON’T glue the wrong pieces together[:P] (I had this misfortune once)

metal parts need to be attached with CA or super glue.

For refrences try google and google images.

here is a review to the kit.

Im sure somebody else will have a lot more to add.

ditto what John said. I’ve just starting building this kit. I would suggest to first decide on what “flavor” to make it. i.e. flak 18 or 36, anti-tank or aa role, mounted or unmounted etc. Doing this will streamline the building process. As an example I’ve read that in the anti-tank role (which I am modeling), the loading tray was not fitted (step 4). Search armor forums for building tips, and I have found reference pics very helpfull. Here’s a link to some great ones. http://tanxheaven.com/fedcol/88mmflak36-37/88mmflak36-37.htm When looking at details in the pics, make sure the gun has the same barrel you are modeling. I am using the flak 36 barrel and was looking at a picture of a type 18. Note the bolts (part D9) on part B48. They don’t apply. Then there are the equilibrators (sic ?). Parts MD4 and MD5. I’ve noticed that they are extended when the gun was pointed to a high elevation, and retracted when the gun was at low elevation for anti-tank role. I figured that some research would make building easier and more accurate. Joel

Hi,

I have this kit on the way and I just finished the old tamiya kit of the same. Look forward to your comments. Ya’ gotta love metal barrels…[:)]

Well this is my first and ive read the FSM article about it lets just hope i can do a decent job on it my personnel goal is to paint it as a winter camo and put it on a dio Question did they use these in the battle of the bulge i think that would make a good dio.

I have one of these kits and must say itsGREEEAAAT! A work colleague finished one some months ago and said its the best kit he ever built. I believe him because between us we have about 70years building experience.

By the way http://tanxheaven.com/index.htm has some great reference shots

Terry burke.

Dry fit your pieces and sub assemblies before final. There are some assemblys that are best done out of order and are much easier than if done as called out by the directions.

I have this kit too and also got the Lion Roar PE for it. Whew it has alot of pieces already then you add that it almost adds up to work. But I will finish it sometime next year. And I agree with what the others posted already too[soapbox]

Im currently building my second one of these kits, and Im still making mistakes! This is a very complicated kit, be careful when assembling the working equilliberators, the Y shaped holder breaks very easily, here is my first attempt at this kit, my second I have yet to post pics of yet:

I’m pretty sure they were there. These guns were delivered to all Fronts of the war including Africa (flak 18), so I dont see why they wouldn’t be in the ardennes.

Thank you all for your help now how do i do a dio that will be the fun part.

It’s an amazing time to be getting into 1/35 armor Rob. there are some absolutely stunning kits being released. You’ve gotten great advice so far. Joel is mistaken that you can build it as a Flak 18 (an almost completely different gun). You can put the optional early Flak 18 interchangeable barrel onto your kit – I’m sure this is what Joel means.

Nonetheless, know that the Battle of the Bulge was a massive armored offensive by motorized units into allied lines. While heavy flak units were attached to some units involved, I think it’s difficult to depict a Flak 36 in this very mobile action. Heavy flak guns would be set up to protect vital points it was mostly a thrust by motorized German units. I’m sure I can be proved wrong but I don’t see them up close to the action. Just an educated guess by me…

You know ive been lookin at this kit ever since i seen the advertisment on FSM for internet hobbies but kept putting it off because of the review saying if you havent built many mutiple role models figured it might be to much since ive built mostly A/C the only armor ive built all year was a Trumpeter M1A2 w/ TRUMP the mine clearing thinggy so this will be difrent as i also have started to built Dios’s for my models so i guess i could get a couple bombed out building and put the flak on one side but i cant find any pic of any dios with kind of refrence photos and havent done any scratch building. So if all go’s well it should come out farly nice as long as i dont get to anxious and try to get it done to fast.
