Need suggestions on how to have a kit auction

I plan to have an auction soon of my model collection. Do I have an open bid min? I have approx. 225 kits, do I auction the entire lot collection or boxes holding 15-20 kits?

Thanks,

John

I would do the the smaller lots. I would break them up by type and somewhat equal value. Maybe 1/48 ww2 U.S. plane, 1/72 German. It just depends on what you have. I would think you would get more money by offering several small lots as opposed to ome big one, which may appeal only to a dealer. You might also consider selling some of the high dollar ones seperately.

I agree with the auction by lots concept, but make sure you have a reasonable minimum bid. A high minimum bid will automatically turn off bargin hunters and the casual “I’d buy that at that price” shoppers.

Also remember shipping costs; if the lot is too large, shipping will be prohibitively expensive. Someone who only wants a couple kits from a big lot won’t bid because the cost including shipping will exceed what he could buy and ship the kits he wants separately for.

You could also post them, (though it will take a lot of time) on other forums such as missing-lynx, hyperscale, or armorama. I’ve bought more there lately then ebay, which is more expensive. You can save money on auctions as well. You’ll also get more eye traffic as well.
