need some help

I have heard that if you need to strip some paint off of a part that has some orange peel to take some brake fluid and rub the part down. Has anyone heard of this or done this before. If so I would like to hear about it or some other way to take care of this problem. Thanks in advance.

I haven’t tried it myself, but I understand it works very well. I have used Castrol Super Clean and that stuff works like a charm. I had to remove some enamel from some missiles I painted, so I soaked them in CSC for about 15 minutes, brushed them with a toothbrush, and no more paint.

oven cleaner works well too. spray some on the undesired area, seal it up in an airtight container like a zip lock bag, wait a couple of hours and rinse the paint off with water and an old toothbrush. i stripped a whole model that i had applied 2 coats of alclad black base and 2 coats of alclad aluminum which is lacquer based, and it came right off. worked surprisingly well. good luck. later.

Thanks for the help. But at this time I dont have any of the things that you are talking about. That is why I was asking about the brake fluid. I will try the brake fluid and if it does not work then I will have to order a new hood for the car I am working on for the race car GB.

Thanks again.

What kind of paint is it?

Mike

The type of paint is Testors Silver metalic spray paint.

You could try the brake fluid as it is supposed to work fairly well.
There are two major problems with brake fluid though:

  1. It is hard to dispose of and will blind you if it gets in your eyes
  2. It leaves an oily film on the model that has to be removed

I would recommend you go to Walmart or an auto store and get some Castrol Super Clean degreaser or get a can of Easy-Off oven cleaner in the yellow can at either Walmart or the grocery store. They both work great and are biodegradable so you can wash them right down the sink.

Brake fluid will soak into the interior of your buils and seep out forever. It is a mess. Go to the auto parts store and get some Super Clean my friend, you won’t be sorry…

Thanks for the words of advice. I think I will go and buy something else. I just heard that the brake fluid worked, but before I tried it I wanted some info from the rest of you that have more time in this hobby than I do. Thanks again.
