need some advice from F-104 StarFighter fans

I’m back, finally, into modeling after a 30-year hiatus. Modeling motor skills seem to be still functional…

I’ve been searching for a decent-quality F-104 G or S kit, in 1/48th or better 1/32 scale. My goal is to build an Italian F-104S from a G kit and scatchbuild the neccesary details and scrounge for decals.

Rumor has it that Hasegawa still makes their venerable F-104G/S kit in 1/32 scale (actually just their old G repackaged), but it appears after a thorough search that these are only available on Neptune, because there seem to be none on Earth! Has must have finally discontinued it. Tragic.

There seem to be more Verlinden and other resin goodies for the Starfighter in 1/48 scale, anyway, so I guess that’s within the possible.

Can anybody recommend a good kit?

Hasegawa’s 1/48 F-104s are generally considered to be the best in the scale and I believe they have an S in the range.

[#ditto]They are quite good.

The last 1:32 Hasegawa F-104 I picked up I got from Sprue Brothers. Check to see that they stock on the subject.

Hi rattinox…welcome back to the hobby! [#welcome]

I’m actually getting items together for a similar F-104 build, S or G in Italian markings. I’ve come to the conclusion that in 1/48 scale the Hasegawa offerings are probably the best available. For decals, Sky Models makes a sheet with an impressive array of markings for Italian F-104’s, available from Pacific Coast Models in the US:
