After I mentioned sneeking a booth in the house i’ve been thinking about it even more. We’ve got two parrots and they are super sensitive to airborne chemicals and such. Can anyone suggest a store bought brand that would keep the paint from killing the birds and the wife from killing me?[:D]
I read about the Gunze Sangyo Mr. Super Booth this morning and it sounds good but you folks that use a booth would know better than I.
It has a bunch of accessories you can get for it. I didn’t think it was too expensive, and it works well enough for all my painting needs. Just make sure you order extra first-stage filters; they get dirty pretty quick.
Hi Pvt. Mutt, been using a Pace paint booth which vents to the outside thru a window. It uses a standard 4" dryer hose and also uses an easily available filter. It has built in lights and a couple of on/off switches and outlets for convenience. I’ve had mine for about 3 months now and really like it. I did miscalculate the size and both the biggest one they make but if you check the website you can look at all the features and different sizes. If you look at the airbrush/paint forum here you might find some more info on what the people here use. The link for the Pace Paint Booth is paintboothbob@aol.com take a look there and see if you like what he has. By the way, you will have better luck sneaking a new model into the house than this thing. It came in a box big enuff for me to hide in LOL.
Several years back Finescale had an article on how to build your own spray booth. i chose this route and it works great. I will see if I can find the issue
Thanks Guys, Rick that Pace is really high class(bookmarked). Modelbuilder, i’d like to see that info as well. Right now i’m leaning more to the store bought side but you never know.
I also built a spray booth from an article in FSM. I added extra lighting from the original plans, but other than that, the booth works very well. I’ll also see if I can find the article.
I have a Pace Peacekeeper myself. It is the largest one they make. I don’t know what your space situation is though. Like others have mentioned, there are all kinds of nice ones out there or, you can just build one. BTW, Pace does free shipping and if you call, you speak to Bob Pace himself. Great guy.
On a semi-related note, speaking of parrots, my wife bought her best friend a parrot a few years back. She kept it in a cage by the window. In the winter. One morning she woke up and went to check on him. Birdscicle…[xx(]
All you need is a box w/a bathroom exhaust fan, a length of dryer hose, a piece of wood with a hole and a hose coupler to put in the window to vent it through, and maybe a light. They are quite simple to make. No need to buy a pre-made on.
I personnaly don’t use one. I just spray outside or in the garage. Yes, even in the winter. A space heater works great in the garage (w/a window cracked) and a heavy coat handles the outside chill well.
I’ve seen several photos of that booth, but have never seen one for sale. Are they still being built? And if so where did you get yours? I’m at the point that I can’t paint anything till I get a new booth (and whenever it decides to warm up).
