Need Pics of KC-135 Boom...

I purchased a 707 that I want to modify into a KC-135Q. What I’m looking for are detailed photos of the external view of the boom from side and rear. Specifically the observation? area. Most pics I’ve found on the web give me an idea of the side view, but nothing from behind.

Any help appreaciated.

Don

The books, KC-135, Detail and Scale by Alwyn T Lloyd,KC-135, In Action by C.M. Reed, and KC-135 by Robert Hopkins have some excellent detail shots of the tankers boom and the hinged panel for the boomer to see out to the receiver. [alien]

Don,
Took some pics of a UT ANG KC-135A at the Hill Open house last year. Not sure of any difference in this position from the A to the Q.

More shots of the plane here

Not sure what kind of 135 is at Pima, but its boom area was the same as that.

Thanks guys,

Phil, that’s the kind of pic I was looking for, Thanks.

paraclete1;
also there are 2 kinds of booms, Hi-speed and Low-speed, not much of an exterior differance but by the winch attachment point there is a very course painted area on the hi-speed booms, I’ll try to get some pix for you as soon as we get a plane for Isocronical inspection

The only thing I know about the Q model is that it has a closed communications link that plugs into the SR with the boom so there’s no radio communication floating about in the air. I doubt it appears externally. I always wanted to do a ceiling-hanger of a refueling scene and never did while the AMT C-135 or Academy KC-117L were available, which hacks me off. One thing that would be required is the boom extended, and there are three or four shades of da-glo paint on the extended part of the boom, which would be hard to find or match, I should think.
I know this isn’t any help, except that I don’t think you’re going to run into much external difference at all. The correct tail numbers on this limited edition KC is one concern. And, does anyone know if these Q birds were capable of carrying regular JP-4 when needed for other aircraft, or was the boom unique, aside from the com connection?
