Need info on D-Day P-38

19-04-04
Guys, I am participating in hte D-Day Group Build and am thinking of doing a P-38. I have the Academy 1/48 Lightining E, but I am not sure if this flew on the day or with who.
Can anyone point me to a site or have information on this? I seem to find a lot of references to Lightining L’s on the day. Who makes this as a kit in 1/48?

Thanks in advance
Liam

Aeromaster do 1/48 decals for four F5E Lightnings of the 7th Photo Recce Sqn, all with D-Day stripes and Synthetic Haze Blue schemes. Unfortunately they appear to be discontinued, but Hannants appear to still have some in stock under special offers, so if you want them you gotta be quick!! Catalogue number is AMD48546, and Hannants website is www.hannants.co.uk
Hope this helps

E model was used earlier in the war especially in Africa. The J model went into production in '43 with the new chin intakes. The later versions were the ones over Normandy on D-Day.
Here is a pretty good link for history.
