Need Help

I’m an old guy who has recently returned to modeling after an absence of 30+ years. I can’t believe how good the new kits are and I can’t believe the selection either. There are obviously some VERY talented people out there building stuff. My favorite subjects of late are U.S. WWII armor and I’m in the middle of an M-10 kit (Tamiya). So far, I’ve been at it for about 15 months, working maybe a 1/2 hour per week. (I may actually die before I finish this)

Anyway, why does no one out there make a nice set of armor tools (pick, shovel, track adjustment tool, etc.) in PLASTIC!?!?!? I bought a set of tools in resin and, of course being new to all this, I’ve destroyed every piece I’ve tried to get detached for the block they come on. So, how the %&^&#% do you get them loose?

Welcome to the Forum!

I don’t do armor but I’ve worked with resin. Try a razor saw to detach the parts, then you can clean them up with files and sandpaper as usual. While you saw, grip the pieces as close to the sawing site as possible to reduce stress on the part.

Be careful! They can be brittle as you have learned.

Some folks recommend respiratory protection from the resin dust.

Good luck! Glad to have you with us. There are lots of armor modelers here to hang out with.

Welcome aboard. Resin parts are a bit tricky to work with, a saw is defiantly good advice. You can then file off any access.

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you on the forums! Let us know how your resin adventures go. I’ve been back into the hobby for a couple of years now and STILL have not tried working with resin! You are more brave than I!

Welcome to the forum, my little Dremel tool comes in handy for cleaning up resin pieces

Yeah, well it’s more out of frustration that I went with the resin parts. I’ll see what I can do with my new-found recommendations

Fortunately I have a Dremel tool, so I can always give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you for the tip. We’ll see how it goes!

Thanks so much for the response. You’ve been very helpful and we’ll see how it goes. BTW, love the “handle” checkmateking02. That takes me back a long ways!

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard!

Somebody figured out a while back that the average age on here is 40 something. We need more “old guys” here to keep an eye on these young whippersnappers. I’ve been building for 67 of my 73 years and, with my stash, I should be building for about the next 200 or so years. Soooooooo, I guess I’ll be building at that great workbench in the sky.
