Need help with my regulator; needle bouncing

Hello,

My needle on my regulator bounces around so much, it’s hard for me to set the correct pressure. The flucuation is about 5 psi up and down. I’m using a Badger Cyclone I compressor and a $10 regulator from WalMart.

Is the problem the compressor (being piston) or the cheap regulator? Or is this normal? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Jesse

Actually, the Cyclone I is a diaphram type compressor, and the problem that you have described is not inherent in the design. I have owned one myself for several years, and the pressure is quite steady. The pressure will naturally drop a couple of PSI when the AB is opened, but with the air flowing through the AB, the pressure will be fairly constant.

Tighten the regulator connection coming out of the compressor and tighten the gauge. Use teflon tape if you can, but the problem is a slightly loose connection somewhere in the setup. Let me know how this helps.

Jesse, Do not know about the Badger Cyclone I compressor but if it does not have a storage tank, the problem you are talking about is caused by the action of the compressor itself. Occassionally you can reduce these pluses by using a extra long hose which can act as a small storage tank.

If the Cyclone does have a storage tank check your regulator for correct operation.
