I would like to know if there is somebody who has photos of an aichi jake (cockpit etc.), because i would like to scratchbuilt a model of this airplane. you can send any info to the next adress: nvddvd@yahoo.com

I have 2 books on the Aichi D3A. Is this the plane you are talking about ?

One of the forum regulars, Swanny, has build a model of the Jake. Maybe he has information?

There isn’t a lot on the Jake available. I have Mikesh’s Japanese Interiors book, there are only 2 interior photos and they don’t show much. He says the interior color was probably Black-Green, the fuselage stringers and bulkheads aotake, but the skin was primed with red-brown on both the inside and outside before it was riveted on.

Good luck with this one, it will be a challenging scratchbuild. Of course, you are required by law to post frequent progress pics, so we can all model vicariously!

There are two good references for the Aichi E13A Reconnaisance Seaplane “Jake” - both in Japanese. Maru Mechanic #12 is devoted entirely to the Jake with excellent photos, plans and detail drawings. Kokufan’s Famous Airplanes of the World (FAOW) #47 - Imperial Japanese Navy Reconnaisance Seaplanes has about 10 pages of photos, as well as 3-views and an interior layout diagram. In addition, Nichimo has a decent 1/48 scale kit of the Jake that could be used as a pattern for your project. It is basically accurate except for a greatly simplified cockpit. Mike West of Lone Star Models is rumored to be working on a resin aftermarket cockpit set for the Nichimo Jake. You could contact him and see if he has additional reference material he would be willing to share with you.
