Need help picking the right F-4E kit

Last year I got the TwoBobs SEA Heroes decal set in 1/72. I’m trying to figure out what kits I can use this stuff on and I hope y’all can help me.

I’m building Chico the Gunfighter. I need an F-4E that has no slats. For those who don’t know, the slats were added to some F-4Es in order to make them more agile for dogfighting. Chico was a ground attack bird, pounding traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail with Rockeyes and gun pods.

In the TwoBobs “What’s Out There” section of the instructions, it lists Hasegawa, Fujimi and Revell, but it doesn’t have specific kit numbers, just a warning that you need to be careful to pick and unslatted kit if you’re using Hasegawa or Fujimi.

So…What kits will do? And also, will any of the kits of the F-4EJ do the job?

Hi there CD,
This is a link that might help you out a little.

Yeah, I did take a look at 72scale.com first, but the problem is it doesn’t tell me what I need to know about the kits, and Internet searches for more infor on the Hasegawa and Fujimi birds has been fruitless so far.

You may want to check the gun fairing on “Chico” also. Early F-4E’s had a different muzzle fairing than later production ones. I dont know if this came into effect as the same time as the slats or not. For the issue of kits themselves, you’ll have to give the kits (either box photos or reviews) a critical eye to see if they have the wing/muzzle you need. Try Hyperscale in their reviews.

Thanks for the hyperscale tip, I’ll be sure to use it as a resource in the future. This time out, I came up dry. The only F-4E review they’ve got is for the Tamiya 1/32 kit.

Bump!

Anybody?

Good Luck

Modelling Madness has a bunch of 1/72 Phantom reviews:

I’ve only built a Revell F-4 wild w at 1/32 and a much beloved Revell USN at 1/72.

THE problem with Revell is that the stores are just terrible.

Much better to buy :
