Need help on photoetch parts for Tiger I

Greetings,

I am currently working on the Tamiya 1/35 Early Tiger I with the Aber superset, 35 K01…it has proven to be quite a challenge so far. I have had to get an extra “side fender and mudguard” set just to replace the parts I’ve lost or ruined. Interestingly, the brass on the extra set seems slightly thicker that that of the “superset”, and thus a bit easier to work with.

I need help–I am currently working on the tiny hinges that run down the side of the front mudguards, and need suggestions on any tricks or helpful hints that can help make the task easier, because I’m having a heck of a time of it. I’m using the 2" length of wire that came with the hinge tool. Does anyone have any suggestions on tools to use, techniques, clamping methods, or anything else that can make the hinge assembly a little easier before I damage anymore until they are unusable? Particularly, how to bend the hinges so the wire “pin” can line up properly? I seem to be lacking opposable thumbs when it comes to this. I have a Hold n’ Fold “Bug”, and Etch-Mate, and a FenderBender, and multiple little tweezers, and still have problems.

I would be forever grateful for advice…

Thanks,

Rory

Well i have no help for you,but dont feel bad Im working on a Tiger right now and had to replace some photo-etched parts also to replace the ones I screwed up.So I feel your pain there good luck[xx(]

i have the pe set for my tiger 1 it is the tamiya version 35146 and have the eduard 35441 photo etch i dont know much about your hinges for the big ed set but my set has at least 4 sheets and the best advice i can offer is use slow jet or something comperable to give you time to maneuver your parts around i have had my glue set up in a minute, plenty of time to maneuver and manipulate and as far as your tools you have them alredy !!! i dont think it gets better than what you have if you want a real good set of solid hinges i know aber makes a real good set ,make sure you use some debonder the glue may have gotton inside so you cant push your pin rod in hope this helps you … [8D]
