there’s a hobby show/contest on the 27th/28th of this month and since this would be my 1st contest i would like a heads up on what the judges would be lookin for or at since you guys would have more experience in this id like your advice to what i could expect

Areas of focus for me would be,

  1. an interesting vehicle.
  2. amount of detail added to the kit and inaccuracies fixed.
  3. quality of assembly.
  4. realistic painting and weathering.
  5. historical accuracy.

I agree with " gjek" , 100% , plus add something to draw more interest , for instance a crew commander , with his map spread out , notepad in hand , briefing his crew , on the front of the vehicle . Because , if people see a crew gathered around a vehicle , and not in their hatches , they wonder , what they are doing ? They could be getting orders , doing maintenance , bombing up , etc .I hope this helps !

Having judged at IPMS Regionals and at the AMPS National I can give you a reasonably knowledgeable answer of what judges look for. Number one is basic construction and finish. Take care of your seams, sinkholes, mold parting lines, track alignment and so on. Don’ t leave fingerprints in the paint, runs, spatters and so on. Have your stowage make sense, don’t let your track or road wheels float and watch out for silvering in your decals. There’s a lot to it, but it boils down to this: do a good clean build, finish it well, and don’t cut corners. Keep your level of work and detail consistent throughout the project.
