About to embark on my next project - taniya 1/48 Corsair Bird cage.
I want to build the Marine Corps variant. Tamiya only offers colours as mixtures of their paints. I’m not that ambitious!!
Also, I want to try something other than acryl’s.
Can someone offer the top and bottom colours please.Maybe the Model Master equivalent.

Model Master is a good brand to use. I use nothing but their line of paint and have never had a problem. The colors you will need depend on the paint scheme you are putting on your Corsair. The first one applied to the “birdcage” models was USN blue-gray over light gray. Later, some carried the tri-color scheme which was dark sea blue, intermediate blue, and white.

Yes the sheet offers two paint schemes. One is a tri colour, the other simply a top and bottom. Since the Tamiya only offers mixtures I was not sure the colour names. What you suggest sounds right, from what the the box art depicts. The tri colour was a Navy scheme, the other a Marine.
The Marines, being part of the Navy, used the same schemes as the Navy. Still do today. Many times the only clue will be the “Navy” or “Marine” somewhere on the airframe. And it isn’t unknow for aircraft to go from one to the other. In fact it wasn’t unknown for a Marine unit to be formed on Navy aircraft from a naval unit which was being re-equipped with a later model or new type.

AAAAHHHHH!!! The Marines are NOT part of the Navy!! [:)] The Marines are under the Department of the Navy, but not part of the Navy. We are completely separate entities. That is why there is a Marine Commandant, who is part of the Joint Cheifs of Staff. If we were part of the Navy, then that wouldn’t be true. Granted, we keep the Navy out of trouble, but that’s another story…[:D][:D]

If you’re building the tri-color version, you can use Flat Sea Blue FS35042 for the top color, Intermediate Blue FS35164 for the side colors (including the vertical stabilizer and bottoms of the outer wing panels), and Flat White for the bottom. The interior can be Interior Green, as are the wheels wells, BUT, the wheel wells were sometimes painted the same color as the plane’s bottom, so check your references. Good luck with your endeavor!!!
