i need some hull red paint, and instead of buying a whole botttle for just a little bit of painting, what mixture can i use if i already have flat red? anyone know of this ratio?
When you say “hull red” do you then mean RAL 8012 Red Oxide Primer for German armor ??
The recipe for RAL 8012 Red-brown ( Red oxide primer )
34.8 parts Sicotan Yellow L 2110
5.9 parts Paliogen Red L 4120
47.2 parts Bayferrox Red 130 M
6.9 parts Titanium Dioxide 2310
5.3 parts Lamp black 101
Ok !! Very simple’
The guy who supplied me with the recipe boiled it down to:
10 drops whatever-you-use-for-red-brown-camo-color (RAL 8017)
2 drops spectrum yellow
1 drop spectrum red
4 drops white
There !! that is easier to comprehend.
Play around with it a bit until you get something that suits you.
wow! what a recipe. [:I] i might be better off just buying the bottle, hehe. most of the colors i already have are basic camo colors, and some regular colors of yellow, blue, red, etc. nothing too fancy outside of the camo and gray colors. thanks for the help, i’ll try to play around with it and see if i can make some, if not i’ll just end up buying some. thanks
Roo, Tamiya actually HAS a “Hull Red”; it’s XF-9…and if you’re looking for a bottle of zinc chromate primer, Polly Scale has #414293 “zinc chromate primer”–put yer mixing bowl away![swg]
alrighty off to the hobby store i go tomorrow. [#wstupid] [:)]
Hull Red by Tamiya is VERY dark.
That is true. Maybe need a little drop of RED to bring the red color just a little bit.
Ben
your right tamiya is VERY dark, but i think i found the color i was looking for. its pollyscale red oxide. don’t have the number right now, i forgot it in my car. but that has a nice tone to it
don’t obcess[:D]-- lol-- almost every paint manufac. offers oxide red-- I use Floquill railroad colors Oxide Red --this is an enamel base paint-- looks like everybody elses’ oxide red-- even box car red from Floquill looks good— tread[8D]
well the reason is that my local store dosen’t have that great of a selection of tamiya. they have a mess load of polly scale and MM. both enamel an acryl. but that’s why i found the pollyscale, i didn’t know if tamiya make the red oxide, and that was really the tone i was looking for. i thought hull red was close to that same color.
